Caution urged in I-35 construction zone following recent crashes
CBS Austin ^ | August 23, 2019 | Fred CantĂș

Two wrecks in as many days has us reminding you of the risks we face driving through construction zones on Interstate 35.

The first accident happened early Thursday when an 18-wheeler hit a road worker on I-35 near the flyovers to US 183. And early Friday, police had to respond to a three-car chain reaction crash just a mile away on the interstate. And while police explained to reporters how they were going to handle the aftermath of the latest crash, a car behind the officer spun out of control, hit the curb and finally stopped facing the wrong direction.

Austin Police Corporal Jonathon Bynum quickly survey the scene and commented, “As you can see behind us a vehicle spun out, probably not paying attention. You have to pay attention to the road at all times to avoid things like this."

Having one collision follow another doesn’t surprise the folks at TxDOT. Spokesman Brad Wheelis says, “Secondary crashes in construction zones are something we deal with."

Caution?!

On I 10 northwest of San Antonio there’s a fatality about once a month I was out there yesterday a guy in a huge pickup is trying to pass me- on the right- about a foot away from me- in rush hour- on the
Access road. I’m not fast enough. He wants to do 75 mph. He is typical. I’m up there to see my chiropractor after getting hit on I 35 earlier in the week

I learned to drive in th LIE and in Manhattan

Sorry. Texas drivers are oblivious of danger. They are insane. They’ll hit you while you’re sitting at a stop sign. It’s happened to me five times. Sitting still.

Forget about it

Going through Austin on I-35 is pretty interesting experience. I urge you to go the full round trip.

Like you, these people are not Texans.

It is Reconstruction all over again...Carpet Baggers bringing their bad habits with them.

Nice try

I’ve lived in Texas for 30 years.

Traffic here in SA has actually improved over the past five or so years with it having doubled in population.

No it’s texans. I like them just fine. They seem to Ike me. I have a good job. But they can’t drive bless their h

Try Utah. Texans are the very light of the world, considerate and polite attentive drivers in comparison.

I dread every time I have to enter Utah. Paris is a cakewalk in comparison: at least they are actually LOOKING.

I will stay that in the major population centers in Texas: Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas/Ft Worth that more than half of the population there are NOT native Texans.

That does not account for it. I have been here for thirty plus years. This was always an issue. Anyone it the Air Force would tell you in the late ‘80s driving on 410 was taking your life into your hands

You get on the highway and there’s some Texan, not Mexican, behind you on the entrance ramp flooring it coming around your left as if you are not trying also to get on the highway. These are big new trucks, women in sedans, no

And there are accidents all the heck over the place every day. We spent four years in Germany. I can drive 120mph

I saw one accident per year in Germany I see one to two per day in San Antonio.

I loathe the invasion as much as anyone but NO this is texans

Oh and. Don’t get me started on Houston and Dallas. I used to think the lawless NJ turnpike was bad. No comparison

Texas opened its borders to interstate immigration in the 70's, beginning with the flow from Michigan.

The expression in the 70's was: "Would the last person leaving Michigan please turn the lights off'.

Which is why the American Airlines Center is a sea of Red, when the Red Wings come down here.
