When I was a young journalist decades ago, training to cover Washington, one of my mentors offered sage advice: When it comes to U.S. intelligence and diplomacy, things often arent what they first seem.
Those words echo in my brain today, as much as they did that first day. And following the news recently, I realize they are just as relevant today with hysteria regarding presidential lawyer Rudy Giulianis contacts with Ukraines government.
The coverage suggests Giuliani reached out to new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskys team this summer solely because he wanted to get dirt on possible Trump 2020 challenger Joe Biden and his son Hunters business dealings in that country.
Politics or law could have been part of Giulianis motive, and neither would be illegal.
But there is a missing part of the story that the American public needs in order to assess what really happened: Giulianis contact with Zelensky adviser and attorney Andrei Yermak this summer was encouraged and facilitated by the U.S. State Department.
Giuliani didnt initiate it. A senior U.S. diplomat contacted him in July and asked for permission to connect Yermak with him.
Then, Giuliani met in early August with Yermak on neutral ground in Spain before reporting back to State everything that occurred at the meeting.
That debriefing occurred Aug. 11 by phone with two senior U.S. diplomats, one with responsibility for Ukraine and the other with responsibility for the European Union, according to electronic communications records I reviewed and interviews I conducted.
When asked on Friday, Giuliani confirmed to me that the State Department asked him to take the Yermak meeting and that he did, in fact, apprise U.S. officials every step of the way.

So the Dems instigate the media frenzy about Ukraine only to find THIS? Thats what they get for using one of those Acme Whistleblowers.
Does the whistleblower even exist? Smells like a rabbit trail laid by trump and the dems and media caught the rabbit.
The folly is that the Ukraine is holding evidence to criminally charge Joe Biden but because he is a Democrat and front runner for Prez nominee it cannot be acted upon; BUT we can use all that dirt to smear Prez Trump for talking to the Ukraine about it and call it grounds for impeachment.
When will the 'rats & their media stop calling all the shots and justice be served on their filthy nests? Is there the slightest hint that DoJ is looking at the Biden/Ukraine connection?
Trump gets them every time. Always more to the story. Just like when Trump said he was being wiretapped and the media made fun of him for days. Of course, it turned out, not only being wiretapped, but much worse.
I will still be happier when Rudy leaves Washington, and goes back to New York.
To read later.
I am still waiting for an article questioning Biden’s corruption instead.
No. THIS IS WHY they're making such a fuss.
Remember that scene in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The FORUM where Pseudolus starts screaming, "Plague!"?
John Solomon hits another homer. Make sure you read the whole thing for gems like these:
“Ukraines government under recently departed President Petro Poroshenko and, now, Zelensky has been trying since summer 2018 to hand over evidence about the conduct of Americans they believe might be involved in violations of U.S. law during the Obama years.”
“Then the Ukrainians hired a former U.S. attorney not Giuliani to hand-deliver the evidence of wrongdoing to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, but the federal prosecutors never responded.
The U.S. attorney, a respected American, confirmed the Ukrainians story to me. The allegations that Ukrainian officials wanted to pass on involved both efforts by the Democratic National Committee to pressure Ukraine to meddle in the 2016 U.S. election as well as Joe Bidens sons effort to make money in Ukraine while the former vice president managed U.S.-Ukraine relations, the retired U.S. attorney told me.”
“And her (Clinton’s) party leaders, the Democratic National Committee, asked the Ukraine embassy to also try to dig up dirt on Trump. Thats not a record worthy of throwing the first punch on this story.”
So it seems Hellary and the Dims did exactly what they are now accusing Pres. Trump of doing, and also suppressing evidence of probable crimes by their supporters (Hunter Biden and the Podesta brothers?).
I think Liz Warren will be the nominee anyway.
Her daughter is tied to the firm that did the Ukrainian work during Obama administration.
McKinsey, the standard-bearer for autocrats, looters and torturers
In a deeply researched longread, New York Times investigative reporters Walt Bogdanich and Michael Forsythe document in fine detail the role played by the ubiquitous McKinsey and Company in legitimizing, coordinating, and supercharging the world’s most notorious human-rights-abusing regimes, from Saudi Arabia to China to Russia.
In these countries, McKinsey consultants confer with ex-McKinsey consultants who ascend to high ranks in government ministries and para-governmental entities (such as Russia’s VEB bank, which operates as a not-very-secret arm of the Kremlin), and the McKinsey company hires the scions of local power-brokers to work in their ranks.
McKinsey worked alongside Paul Manafort to legitimize and guide Ukraine’s Viktor Yanukovych; they were one of the few “Western” countries to attend the “Davos in the Desert” event thrown by the Saudis after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi; they had their fingers deep in the embezzlement scandal that brought down the Malaysian government.
Good. Her socialist/commie give-aways will be easily countered by Trump. Not to mention she is a Hillary clone with all the smiley face coming on stage and then goes into her screaming harpie harangue promising everyone with everything. Trump will devastate her with facts, stats, and economic impossibilities.
Thanks for posting. Saw a little about it on a certain news channel this evening.
This is shining more light on Biden and son
Unintended consequence strikes Dems again
Nope....she’ll be VP....probably with Biden.
