The crow population here in the South San Francisco Bay Area has just exploded the past 30 years. It was rare to see a suburban crow back then. Now the damned things are everywhere. Back then we had huge Mourning Dove populations and their wonderful plaintive cooing. It was always nice seeing the mated pairs together. Now we rarely see a Mourning Dove anywhere around here.

I hate the damn crows. I'm in South SF and they're all over the neighborhoods here. They tear holes in my lawn while searching for worms to eat. Noisy as heck as they caw to each other. Hanging around on every rooftop. My neighbor actually gives them dog food dry nuggets and the crows follow him around. The feral cats are afraid of the crows, so it's up to me to scatter the crows with a slingshot I use. Pesky things! We used to have lots of bluejays and robins but now it's mostly crows.

Mourning doves aplenty here. They are the chicken of the wildlife world, big, slow and dumb.

This summer they were roosting at night on my brick sidewalk. I live in the woods. Predators.

You need to come to our house then. We have all the Mourning Doves you’d care to view. All day, all year. Hubby feeds them and we have for over 20 years. Same with the Hummers. We have more hummers in the winter, when they’re supposed to migrate, than we do in the summer.
