I love crows. They’re very intelligent, and would make good pets. But even though many consider them pests and at times they’ve been viciously exterminated, it’s illegal to take one in the US.

Crows are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act but can be taken out of season, without a permit, when caught in the act of committing, or about to commit, damage to ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock or wildlife, or are concentrated in numbers and in a manner that constitutes a health hazard or nuisance.

Minnesota has three crow seasons.

I agree crows are a smart bird. You say it’s illegal to take one in the US...in Kentucky we have a crow season and you can take one year round if it’s doing depredation. I never bother them, as when I was a kid my neighbor had a pet one that could say a few words.
