Being black is still bad for your health

Conversations about income inequality and pay equity have been elevated in recent years so much so that Democrats seeking the presidency have made the issues planks in their political platforms. But another chasm that is as yawning as ever, but doesn’t get nearly as much attention, is the health equity gap.

According to a recent study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics, African Americans specifically are at greater risk for the seven deadly diseases, which include diabetes, asthma, stroke and high blood pressure. The disparity is no more apparent than around heart disease, the No. 1 killer of Americans. Overall numbers have declined in the last 20 years; in 1999, non-Hispanic black deaths per 100,000 were 337.4; in 2017, 208. But for whites, it was 156.5 and 85.5.

There are socio-economic reasons for African Americans’ lack of aggression in monitoring their health, including not having the financial resources or comprehensive insurance to visit a physician regularly. Where you live is also a factor. Physicians point out that your zip code is an indicator of your likelihood of heart disease. According to a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, if you’re a man in the top 1 percent of income, you can expect to live 13 years longer than someone in the bottom 1 percent.

~snip~

There are cultural barriers, too. African Americans, who often don’t trust the medical establishment, are less likely to follow medical protocols.

Only because habitual criminals have been able to manipulate the we vs they mentality that pervades too much of black subculture, and as a result may find metaphorical tall grass to hide in even the midst of those that they prey upon.

It’s not color.

It’s culture.

NBC is promoting a subtle form of racism. For all the Black victimhood they are promoting, they are also promoting an inferred and corresponding view that Black Americans are effectively children who need society and government to help them achieve anything.

I used to work with some black women. And they ALL hated cottage cheese and I thought it was weird.

But now I know 90% of black people are lactose intolerance.

Just like Diabetes, and blood pressure.

Some medical conditions are genetic. Of course these days, that is heresy to say such things.

Just like white people are more vulnerable to skin cancer.

The litany of diseases which they have invoked are all lifestyle diseases which do not discriminate. Follow a certain lifestyle, you too can get those diseases.

And I know plenty of white people who have done just that.

Being poor is bad for your health.

Be responsible. Stay married. Finish High School. Get and keep a job. Dont do drugs or commit crimes.

Guess what? you tend to do very well.

Obesity is a huge problems for American blacks. It's a problem for a good percentage of whites as well.It often leads to diabetes and hypertension which are major killers of Americans of all races.

Diet and/or exercise...preferably both...are the answer for many.

Being white is bad for your health—if you go wandering around in certain black neighborhoods.

Look at your average black persons diet.....It’s generally not what most would consider healthy.

Articles like this are really terribly superficial and just plain silly.

There are a myriad of environmental factors effecting ones overall health and availability of high quality healthcare is just one of hundreds. One thing about that, it’s been studied and lower income people are less likely to see a physician regularly even when it’s affordably available.

This sort of specious analysis has become the norm for your average journalist. It’s basically the furtherment of a narrative based on the thinnest of cogent examination.

Everything to do with white supremacy, of course.
Nothing to do with culture, diet, lack of respect for education, etc, etc. Nothing to see here, move along, move along.

Sorry, but the blacks I deal with are doing very well and don’t need any dumb-*ssed dimbulbcrat or journalist to “help” them in any way. Something to do with the fact that they figured that helping themselves instead of demanding help is a good approach.
