Community gathers to remember 3 teens killed in alleged robbery attempt (update)

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. - A community gathered Wednesday night to remember three teens killed by a homeowner in what police believe was an attempted robbery.

Isaiah Reed, Jamie Hernandez Jr. and Branden Gresham were killed after police say they approached a home in Conyers with masks on and one of the teens fired at the residents of the home. The alleged robbery victims returned fire, killing all three teens. The boys were 15 and 16 years old.

So far, no one has been charged in the teens' deaths.

Tragic?

Only if the alleged evangelist had attempted to counsel the youths on not being deadly violence-inclined thugs.

That's interesting to read. Notice they call one of the perpetrators a "victim" at one point. While true from a strictly technical perspective, it's not particularly very accurate, always a hallmark of good writing, no? They sure use the word "attempted" a lot, count 'em, I got bored and quit. They were robbers. Masked, armed robbers. All robberies are "attempted", that's sort of implied isn't it? Reportage seems to always be chock-full of these vague pronouncements and third person word salad, exactly the sort of thing we were warned about in English classes. "Alleged", natch. One shouldn't have to reverse engineer a simple news report to try and figure out what happened.

There was no explanation given. Choose any explanation you like.

The homeowner was smart enough to remain silent and has declined to speak with reporters.

The homeowner is a truck driver. Others have pointed out that a 4:00am wake up time is commonplace in this job. That works for me.

There are several "No Trespassing" signs on the property. That tells me that the homeowner has had problems with burglars or vagrants before, and had direct reasons to be armed with weapons close at hand.

I would bet that there have been previous contacts with the "teens".

Looks like a story with a happy ending to me.

The homeowner only has one chance to guess what they plan to do. It’s not like they knock on the door and say they are only there to steal some stuff and then be on their way.

Then why did they fire first while approaching the house. A bullet going through a wall or window can kill just the same as one fired point blank, torso. Probably needs proving in court only. Discharging a weapon in that case isn’t a probably, it’s a for sure.
