LAREDO, Texas -- The white tents that sit here on the very edge of the U.S border, with Mexico a literal stone’s throw away, represent one of the jewels in the crown of the Trump administration’s recent efforts to get a grip on the immigration crisis.
They are the temporary courtrooms set up as part of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) -- known colloquially as the “Remain in Mexico” policy. That policy, established earlier this year, involves sending migrants who are trying to claim asylum back to Mexico during their proceedings -- instead of releasing them into the U.S. while their cases are heard.
This means, officials say, that cases can be heard more quickly -- within as little as 40-60 days, as opposed to the years it sometimes takes after family units are released into the U.S. They say that’s better for the migrants, as it leaves them in limbo for less time. But they argue it also serves as a disincentive for Central American migrants who do not have legitimate asylum claims but might otherwise get into the U.S. by claiming “credible fear” of returning home.
The white tents along the border right now are meant to handle the growing asylum claims, with the backlog now at more than 800,000 cases. The courtrooms recently were set up in Laredo and Brownsville, Texas, but the administration is hoping to set up more such tents across the border soon, expanding amid greater cooperation with Mexico.
Yet the proceedings have come under fire from immigration advocates. The group Human Rights First has called them "secretive" and described them as part of an "attack" on due process within a "sham" asylum system...

There's no controversy. Every alien is allowed to have legal representation and present their case to a judge.
The judge comes to a decision....and moves on to the next case.
The propaganda Socialists and open borders crowd, are just pissed off that these aliens are being forced to prove their claims, before a judge, instead of being released into America, where they generally give these Judges, LE and the American people, the finger.
Perhaps the Dems can send in some blank ballots for future elections and harvest their votes now based on how these poor immigrants intended to vote...every vote counts...at least once, or twice!!!

In San Ysidro there is a building south of the entry checkpoints.
Have the applicants apply in the building.
Why are we taking them and their children into detention?

You are correct. I never call illegals “migrants”. I call them foreign invaders or illegal aliens.

These aren’t even real courts with real judges. The administration should just say that illegal aliens have no standing and kick them all out. Aliens are not entitled to due process.
1. He only threatened Mexico with tariffs and they now hold the Central Americans in their country.
2. Mexico deports many back to their countries every day.
3. Mexico has actually put troops on their southern border due to the tariff threat.
4.Trump is building the People's Wall even with all the opposition. Yes, that includes the Wall replacing old ineffective fences. There are many new contracts approved and will start building shortly, if not already.
5. When was the last time you heard of a new Central American caravan heading our way?
This success along with the economy and better trade deals is why Trump will be re-elected. Suck it socialists!
