There was not "flag" that started it.
It was a verbal reply from the citizens of Gonzalez to the Mexican government when the mescans tried to sieze (take with out authority) the small cannon that sat at the limits of the settlement of Gonzalez.
When the citizens found out the mescan army was coming, they scurried the small 2" bore cannon away and buried it.
