Michigan did away with tenure years ago.

I had no idea. In MO there is tenure after 5 years. Districts can fire a teacher with tenure, but they have to show cause. Before tenure, the teacher’s contract is simply not renewed. No reason has to be given whatsoever. My wife lost a teaching job she had for two years because a school board member’s daughter was looking for work. They sometimes offer a choice. You ‘voluntarily’ resign, thus giving up unemployment benefits, or you suffer the consequences of “not having had your contract renewed”.
