Over the last few years, as violence has reached historic levels, autodefensas have become increasingly common in Mexico. The Oscar-nominated documentary Cartel Land depicted the rise and fall of one such group. Academics have become increasingly interested in the phenomenon.
When a community is no longer protected by a sovereign state the contract between the government and the governed is effectively broken, says Robert Bunker, a professor at the Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College, in an email to The Daily Beast. At that point local citizens who are being robbed, raped, and who are living under the constant fear of bodily injury and death have the option of either fleeing, joining the local crime groups oppressing them, or standing up and taking matters in their own hands as vigilantes.

“Oscar-nominated documentary”
Stopped reading right there.
Cute graphic.... he must be hunting Chupacabras.... or cucharachas with that pellet gun.
I think “Capache” translates to “Dexter”
I saw that too. I’m guessing squirrels or rabbits?
I guess the silhouette graphic of a “Man with a Gun” is supposed to frighten liberals or something...
Well,it IS black.
Haha!!!!
Ooooooh... scary, evil black rifle....
I was just gonna say that the outline is a dead give-a-way.
“..When a community is no longer protected by a sovereign state the contract between the government and the governed is effectively broken, says Robert Bunker,...”
Gee... with that statement, he just made the case for the Second Amendment and National Reciprocity right here in the USA - ESPECIALLY in democrat-controlled cities..
Whoda’ thunk it...
Great job by the writer in pretty much identifying the guy. Might as well have included his picture. Gives the general area he lives, describes a late model pickup out front, describes the house, describes the shooters physical appearance including tattoos and distinctive jewelry.
Now all the cartel has to do is go to the local convienence stores and “convince” the store owners to be on the lookout for the shooter.
Similar to Los Pepes in Columbia.
It’s inevitable that Mexico will see the continued rise of militias and competing warlords if the central government does not stomp out the crime syndicates and restore civil order. Mexican and Central American culture has a history of some of the most brutal and genocidal behavior the world has ever seen and they are headed back in that direction. The biggest problem is that the cartels are so well funded and until we have complete physical control of the US/Mexico border, we won’t be able to make any sort of appreciable dent their supply of cash.
I thought Mexico took all the gubs from the people except the ones obama and clinton and holder provided.....
Yeah well, Mexicans have more illegal guns than you can shake a stick at. My Mexican friends say that lots of households have a piece or two hidden around the place, especially outside of urban areas.
