Cruz won over Beto by only 2.5% of the total vote IN TEXAS last year.

By what percentage did Trump win over Hillary in 2016?

Cruz is not that smart and as another poster aptly stated, he did not endorse Trump at the convention.…That’s what Cruz did to depress the Republican vote for himself.

Perhaps the lack of endorsement had something to do with Trump accusing Cruz' father of complicity in the murder of John F. Kennedy. Or, perhaps it had something to do with attacking the physical appearance of Cruz' wife. Who knows, Perhaps John Bolton would have some insight into what Cruz' was feeling at the convention. Perhaps one's stand on this matter depends on whether you think payback is a one-way street.

Furthermore, you have no proof that any of this at the convention had anything to do with the final score in Cruz' Senate campaign. Perhaps it helped him pile up 2.5% in a state with disintegrating demographics.

All of this boils down to whether we place principles over persons. Either we are for the second amendment or we are for Donald Trump regardless of his position on the Second Amendment. Cheeto Jesus versus the Bill of Rights.

As of now, there is no conflict between Donald Trump and the Bill of Rights. As of now, Cruz is quite properly and publicly laying down a marker on behalf of his constituents to affect the debate, that's how politics is properly played, not by libelous accusations of assassination and demeaning one's physical appearance.

An eloquent and sober analysis post, as always Nathan.

We like to see in Conservative circle that "Trump is not a politician!"

It is true he didn't come from the political sea as an elected hack, however, he played politics his whole life. Moreover, he is a politician now. Plain and simple. I am not denigrating this fact, simply stating it.

Trump is undoubtedly weighing the pros and cons of signing gun control. Polls show that the misguided sheep love the idea of "Red Flag Laws" and more violations of the Constitution.

The President is up for reelection next year. Can he still retain his granite sold base of Conservatives, Libertarians, patriots, working class whites, Evangelicals, small business owners, and those fed up with Washington DC, and still sign gun control? If he signs the legislation, he can fend off any attacks from his opponents on guns and "mass shootings." But will his base stay with him if he blatantly violates the Constitution.

My sincere belief is that enough of his base will stay home if signs gun control. More than enough for him to lose in 2020.

Cruz blamed Trump for organized left wing political violence at Trump’s Chicago rally. Cruz’s pastor father attacked President Trump’s religious beliefs.

If you’re going to dish it out you better be able to take it. Cruz and supporters can’t, obviously. And that’s why he will never be POTUS.

By what percentage did Trump win over Hillary in 2016?

Across the US, by a negative amount of the popular vote and an overwhelming amount of the Electoral College vote, but was expected to lose both by virtually all the polls. For Texas, Trump won by 9% over Hillary.

Who knows, Perhaps John Bolton would have some insight into what Cruz’ was feeling at the convention.

LOL! Trump only said he had accepted Bolton’s resignation through that initial set of days. If you are saying Bolton’s feelings are hurt because he was asked for his resignation, then maybe we need to determine what sort of emotionally-stunted people we are dealing with in Bolton or Cruz. Heck, all Trump did was leverage a National Enquirer report for one Cruz “issue” and comment on Cruz’s wife after a pro-Cruz PAC published nude photos of Melania.

All of this boils down to whether we place principles over persons. Cheeto Jesus versus the Bill of Rights.

Again, what has “Cheeto Jesus” done against the Bill of Rights?
