Ted Cruz: Trump Will Lose in 2020 if He Cuts Deal on Gun Control
Bretibart ^ | 13 Sep 2019 | AWR HAWKINS

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned that President Trump will lose in 2020 if he cuts a deal with Democrats regarding gun control.

Roll Call reports that Cruz offered this observation while speaking to reporters at a Thursday breakfast. He contended that conservative voters will stay home if Trump and the Republicans as a whole cave to Democrat demands.

He was asked about the possibility of Trump making a deal with gun control stalwarts Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Cruz said, “We’re going to see record-setting Democratic turnout. The only element missing is demoralizing conservatives so they stay home. I hope we don’t do that.”

He also noted, “If Republicans abandon the Second Amendment and demoralize millions of Americans who care deeply about Second Amendment rights, that could go a long way to electing a President Elizabeth Warren.”

Cruz also suggested it would be a big mistake for Trump to voice support for the Democrats’ background check bill, saying, “It would also be a serious mistake as a policy matter.”

Trump will not gain votes by trampling on the Bill of Rights.

“If the President signs ANY “gun control” law, he will lose in 2020.”

100% correct.

Trump talks about a lot of things. You can’t listen to what he says, you must watch what he does. I would have thought people understood that by now.

He’s been talked out of things? That sounds like either Lindsay Graham talking (for what that’s worth) or you hang on the mainstream media’s rumor-mongering too much.

Ack. It’s going to be a long 5 years of Cruz comments before he runs for President in ‘24. He is pulling the AOC in your face scam. Good grief. I don’t want your opinion on virtually every story, Ted. Don’t you have Senate business to do?

He’s been talked out of things?

Really? In February 2018 Trump tweeted, "I will be strongly pushing comprehensive background checks" and got talked out of that. During the debates with Clinton he promised to end gun ownership by people on the terror watch list. He apparently got talked out of that. Trump has supported Red Flag lists in the past, supported assault gun bans in the past, longer waiting periods in the past, and has had his position changed on all of them. This latest flirtation with gun control should be no different.

Outspent about 5:1. Californians tried to buy themselves a Texas senate seat.

He brought this on himself with his speech at the Convention. It was a slap in the face to all Trump supporters and to the man we selected. And that after his ridiculous acts on the campaign trail. The man has poor judgement. That is precisely why Beto almost won, but for PDJT coming to the rescue.

To be fair, Beto was funded and spent a fortune from out of state money ($80m + outside groups vs I think the typical senate spending is $5-10m)

“he did not endorse Trump at the convention.”

That’s being awfully kind. Cruz blatantly tried to sabotage Trump. He has a McCain streak goin’ on, I think.

This sentiment needs to be repeated and repeated loudly over and over no matter who voices it. It is ignorant to kick a gift horse in the mouth. It’s about the message not the messenger.

1. Trump will not sign anti 2A legislation. (he will use radical Dem House legislation to garner political points)

2. Cruz attempted to hoist Clinton on us by his Convention antics.

3. Cruz’ language in this current statement is inflammatory, not well thought out.....I will never forgive or vote for him...sound like he may going Romney on us again.

4. Cruz could only beat Beto by 2.5 percent, a guy who stated he would “hell, yeah, I’ll take your AR-15s”
...............in TEXAS !

What a load of crap! If you would stay home because of a law like that you would have stayed home anyway. Trump has done more for this country than anyone in my life, and I would not abandon him so easily.

Do you seriously think anyone that voted for Trump before will let the likes of Warren or Biden get elected? Ted is just posing.

Considering the last time the President “did something” regarding “gun control”: The most useless, feel good, pathetic excuse of a ban on “bump-fire” attachments, Cruz has a legitimate point. Whether he is a Canadian or not!

The TrumpCult won't talk about Trump's unconservative moves.

You provide no evidence that he “got talked out” of anything.

Some conservatives will reject anything if Ted Cruz is saying it. Many still haven’t ‘forgiven’ him for opposing the president back in 2016. There should be nothing to forgive, since competing views and priorities are all a part of the election process. And since many people do change over time once they have adjusted to a new reality.
Mitch McConnell has adjusted quite well. He was not for Trump at all in the beginning.

These ‘family fights’ help to temper that candidate for when the other side pounces on every syllable that he or she decides to speak.

They should be tempered like steel, ready for battle.
Trump was battle tested, and he prepared for it in a way no one had seen before to this extent. Trump is still being tested to this day, by the Mitts, Boltons and Ben Sasse’s of the party.

Yeah, no. Mitch “We’re going to repeal Obamacare Root and Branch” McConnell has done little but obstruct POTUS and our MAGA agenda. POTUS has gotten little but garbage from the GOP controlled Senate. His key appointments have been rejected, etc., etc.

The idea that it’s a good thing Mitt and the rest of the GOP have blocked his nominees is, frankly, insane.

The entire GOP Senate, including Cruz, has been either supportive or silent as the Mueller Coup and it’s police state tactics assaulted POTUS and his supporters. For that I will never forgive, never forget.
