If I recall correctly, two (minor) Saudi princes died shortly after 9/11. One died of a sudden heart attack. He was in his 40’s. Another died when his car ran out of gas in the desert. He was in his 30’s. If I had to guess, it’s one of these two men, and their identities were supplied by the CIA to the Saudi government so they could take the appropriate punitive steps. Because 9/11 was hugely destructive to the Saudi royals, who depend on the US for protection against external enemies, whether Egypt, Iraq, Iran or Yemen. There is no way the Saudi king or his immediate supporters would be a part of such a plot. Whereas secondary players looking to replace the existing top dogs - no surprise there.

Palace revolts like the following have been a recurring part of Muslim history:

That’s why few Muslim rulers want their military establishments to become too proficient.

Maybe former Ambassador to the USA, Prince Bandar?

I believe his wife was implicated in supporting some of individual hijackers.

Zacarias Moussaoui testified that Bandar helped finance them.

Agreed. I don't have to like the Saudis to realize those at the top "ain't that stupid".

I think your scenario sounds about right.

Also, yeah the Olds Delta 88 was smooth!
