MERRIMACK - A man ICE says is in the country illegally allegedly held a homeowner's Maltese mix at knife point on Sept. 11 and threatened residents.
About 10:55 p.m., police responded to a report of an intoxicated man threatening people with a knife at a local residence who then fled on foot.
"Officers discovered that Sarbelio Lorenzo-Zacarias had brandished a knife and threatened to stab another guest at the home," police said.
Lorenzo-Zacarias, 33, 204 New Beach St., Springfield, Mass., had also grabbed Niko, the homeowner's Maltese mix, and threatened to stab the dog as he held a knife to it, police said.
Lorenzo-Zacarias was soon found hiding on the property and arrested for felony criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor animal cruelty, police said.
"During the booking process, officers found that Lorenzo-Zacarias may be in the country illegally," police said. "An Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent responded and confirmed that he is not here legally."
Lorenzo-Zacarias refused bail and a detainer was placed on him by Immigration and Customers Enforcement, police said. He was being held at Valley Street jail pending arraignment.
At least there was a happy ending

He threatened the dog? Did the dog understand the threats? Or did the dog only speak greek or some other language?
I've lost all patience with these terrible headlines. That one is a convoluted mess.
The dog was a Maltese mix. Therefore, I am sure he was proficient in the native language of Malta(Maltese).
Sheesh, everybody knows that.
Well, the dog was a Maltese so one can assume it spoke the language of Malta, which is Maltese.
There are Sleepy Drunks, Flirty Drunks, Fussy Drunks and straight out Mean Drunks who should never drink a drop.
Nowhere in the article does it say this guy was trying to rob somebody. So one must presume that this is just the way he is after a couple of cold Cervezas. Lock Him Up!

I know. If you just read the headline, you are not sure who is being held by ICE, the man or the dog.

Obviously the author: Carl Perreault was probably a journalism major and not an English major.

Zacarias was here to stab people and dogs that Americans would not stab!
This reminds me...what became of the two vans, last week, loaded with gasoline, and determined by “authorities” to be “not connected to terrorism”?

Simple diesel thieves. All that wiring in the van turned out to be a jury-rigged pumping system, not some sort of detonator. However, it sounds like the criminals were lucky in not incinerating themselves.
I never heard about that.
