Every country of note spies on every other country of importance.

Example, when I worked for an airline I was specifically warned not to discuss anything sensitive in first class when flying Air France. ALL seats are bugged (probably the case on other airlines but Air France was specifically highlighted). Meh. Of course they spy on us. Silly for them to even bother denying it. We spy on them too I'm sure.

“Every country of note spies on every other country of importance.”

Exactly.

It’s what the USS Liberty was likely doing in June of 1967 when it was attacked by the IDF.

“Every country of note spies on every other country of importance. “

I would be surprised if Israel didn’t spy on us. The US has wide and wild policy swings that could spell disaster for them. Likewise, we spy on our allies. Sometimes, like France, they do things that are not in the US’ interests. As Churchill said, “Countries don’t have friends. Countries have common interests.” Sometimes, those interests diverge. It’s important to know when that is about to happen so American lives and interests can be protected. You can bet that Trump had a head’s-up long before the French dropped an Iranian official on him at the G7. He probably already had his answer ready. It’s important not to let your boss be taken by surprise...ever.
