Speaking to CNNs Anderson Cooper on Wednesday, Santorum said that while Trump is celebrating this weeks Republican victories in North Carolina, there was a more ominous long-term trend appearing in the polls.
Trump has low favorability ratings and is trailing most of his potential 2020 Democratic rivals, meaning he has quite a hill to climb if he hopes to win reelection next year.
The presidents numbers are not good numbers, Santorum said. The races in 2018 were not good races for the president and hes gotta be concerned.
Santorum added that in the end, Trumps own mouth could be what seals his fate.
I love 90 percent of what the president does, he said. I like about 20 percent of what he says. If you look at what he says, hes got to work on that in order to calm down the opposition.

I have no idea what Obama’s poll numbers were in 11.
Why would it matter?
He was saying the exact same thing in 2016.
Didn't Barry Goldwater manage 39% against LBJ?
I love 90 percent of what the president does, he said. I like about 20 percent of what he says.
So at a rally he only likes 2 out of 10 of the remarks? What an idiot or a liar. Shake your moneymaker for the Democrat Party Press, Rick
“Well, when it comes to losing, he does know his stuff”
Lol. Good Point. Rick knows everything about losing.
Anything for a buck. If he had been a Democrat, hed have stolen enough while in office so he wouldnt have to stoop to appearing on CNN.
Other than being a ball-less POS, rick is a great guy and a paragon of virtue and sensibility.
In the years following his departure from the Senate, Santorum worked as a consultant, private practice lawyer, and news contributor.
In January 2017, he became a CNN senior political commentator
In other words, whoring for a meager fee..
LOL. I recall then candidate Trump calling out the consultants in one of his early campaign rallies. Something along the lines that they all begged Trump to hire them and when he declined, they talked trash about him.
Rick Fredo Santorum
Rush then said these tweets were the only way for Trump to correct the record, which is true.
These people do not see that the MSM has always falsely described all things conservative and good and that there is no level of meekness that would stop the slandering of conservative values.
You must meet evil head on.
These people cower and would let people rape their families, even if they had the easy means to stop it, because it would be uncivilized to interrupt a natural process that occurs in life.
Why is it so important to you to go on national TV to discuss his foibles rather than his strengths, Rick? Whose side are you actually on?
I love 90 percent of what the president does, he said. I like about 20 percent of what he says. If you look at what he says, hes got to work on that in order to calm down the opposition.
Once again, you're more concerned about the other side, than his side. Our side. Whose side ARE you on, Rick?
The presidents numbers are not good numbers
Okay, so let's go ahead and do your job for you, Rick....
Record low black poverty
Record high black employment

New unemployment claims recently hit a 49-year low.

United States is a net natural gas exporter for the first time since 1957.

Net exports are on track to increase by $59 billion this year.
Any of those numbers come to your mind, Rick? Or are only slanted polling numbers important to Establishment goons like yourself, Rick? We the People think the others are more crucial.
"I only like about 20% of what the opposition media tells us that Trump says!"
I actually think Trump has become far more polite and careful in what he says.
Also wouldnt totally ignore Santorums warning. Its probably true a presidents support sags in the mid term and needs to be brought back up.

Says the guy who couldn’t get a single delegate.
Rick, “who?”, apparently got paid to mouth this bs on tv.
Never trust any R that goes on a fake news Network and says anything even mildly negative about President Trump.
so the Voters will vote Dem so they can Ban almost everything and then take whats left ,LOL
It's interesting that people see different things in different parts of the country. I'm in a rigged Republican (ie: deep pocket donors who benefit from gov't contracts choose the candidate) State Rep district of small towns just south and east of Cleveland. The district went massively for President Trump and it's only 2% black and 2% Hispanic. We voted for the token Dem candidate. The Republican Party isn't convincing people who vote for the candidate who deserves to win that they're for us. Folks are ready for some help for the middle class.
It's obvious Santorum doesn't understand Trump at all.
Trump is not trying to calm down the opposition, Rick. He's trying to stir them up and piss them off.
His tweets and his language is intended to keep the American people informed and to keep the democRATS and their liberal media friends off balance.
And he does a fantastic job of it.
As for polls showing his unfavorability and trailing his democRATic opponents, those same polls showed Trump losing by a large margin against their next "I deserve it--it's my turn" candidate, Hillary Clinton, in 2016.
Santorum lost his seat in Congress because he didn't understand the dynamics of a changing political landscape and electorate. His was the largest margin of defeat for a sitting senator in the 2006 cycle, and the largest margin of defeat for an incumbent senator since 1980. He definitely knows how to lose.
So winning is not his strong suit. Trying to advise President Trump on winning in 2020 is out of his league.
