"...the growing epidemic of e-cigarette use..."--Melania Trump

I am deeply concerned about the growing epidemic of e-cigarette use in our children. We need to do all we can to protect the public from tobacco-related disease and death, and prevent e-cigarettes from becoming an on-ramp to nicotine addiction for a generation of youth.--Melania Trump

I’d rather remove the addiction to give government more power and control than they already have.

History has shown this to be FAR less lethal.

Another government solution.

I have long believed we would have a much better country if we turned every single cold course into a rifle range.

CDC says e-cigarettes 95%-99% safer than cigarettes.

From your link:

“The academic research and evidence suggesting e-cigarettes are at least 95 percent and as much as 99 percent healthier than combustible cigarettes continues to mount.”

Yet, they want us to go the deadlier route to make people feel better about themselves.

How about raising children to know the difference between right and wrong, and not demanding government keep them safe by punishing everyone else?

Best comment yet on this thread. I detest busybodies who want to ban what other people do. This is what the entire Democrat platform is about - banning guns, cars, air travel (except for them) etc.

I just read an article about this at the Commentary Magazine blog - unfortunately, behind a pay wall, or I would post the link.

Every death, and almost all the severe cases of respiratory distress, resulted from people smoking marijuana products or illegal drug products in their “Vape” pipe (is that the correct term?).

I am not supporting Vape pipes.

However, I also do not support mass hysteria generated by tort lawyers, who just happen to be the most generous professional group that donates to the Political Left.

This is legalized theft - brought to you by the same people who just took away your pain medication and destroyed Round Up weed killer.

There’s actually a bigger and more dangerous epidemic we should worry about - the even expanding intrusion of the nanny state.

Ya see a rifle range is too restrictive and not in tune with a nice walk. Plant cover crops and stock the course with pheasants, deer, ducks for the water traps. Golf nuts say sarcastically that golf is a good walk, spoiled. Make it a hunting experience.

Will here is a thought. If industry doesn’t want to have government intervention, create a product that will not interest a kid and don’t do advertising that could entise children to use the product. I see this time and time again with industry (e.g., opiods, tabacco) and I wonder if they will ever learn.

All such problems stem from our desire to enhance our perception with some kind of drug. I do with coffee and tea (but that’s it, no alcohol or anything else). Then anyone pushing for no such enhancing of the self is mocked and called a societal deviant.

I would like to see a new sport sort of like Sporting Clays and Three gun combined. Each “hole” would have a different skill requirement. 600 yard one shot on an elk, the next a pheasant on wing, the next an IPSCC style pistol event with shoot/no shoot, magazine change, etc. after 18 “holes” you could cover a bunch of different shooting skills. You could run the entire thing on a converted golf course.

I don’t think that it’s happened in the states where marijuana is now legal, either. So it’s the black market quality control problem more than the marijuana is deadly problem.

The real danger with vaping is not that people are consuming tobacco, it seems. The problem is with unregulated contents of the vaping cartridges, and there being tons of bootlegs and knockoffs. The second problem is respiratory diseases. These devices work somewhat similarly to nebulizers in that they turn the product into a vapor and then the vapor is inhaled. If not properly cleaned and maintained nebulizers can cause respiratory infections that have led to serious illness and death. The same seems to be happening with vape devices.

Some people have a desire for “enhanced perception”. “Of course, it makes you stupid. That’s why you just smoke enough to be happy!” Cheech Marin. Some people have just had too much to think and want to “be happy” for a while. Same as Pabst Blue Ribbon and NFL TV.

Rational people really do have to learn that when they see a crying child on TV whatever it is that is being sold we want LESS of it, not more.

The main toxicity problem seems to be that you have to “liquefy” what you are trying to smoke.

Apparently, there are several ways that are quite dangerous for the human body.

Full Disclosure - I have never used or even held a Vape pipe, so I defer to any and all expert commentary.

You may be interested in the secret story of Lady Bird Johnson.

Back when LBJ was president she was known as the not very attractive dumb first lady whose main claim to fame was telling people to keep highways looking beautiful by not littering.

https://www.pbs.org/ladybird/shattereddreams/shattereddreams_report.html

But—Lady Bird had a secret. Her husband was totally corrupt and received kickbacks from a wide variety of Texas companies, including defense contractors. Her job was to manage all that money, and keep it out of the public eye.
She was _very_ good at it—and the media never found out until long after they died. _Smart_ lady.
