Scalise says it's unclear if bipartisan deal on guns will happen

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said it’s unclear whether lawmakers can reach a bipartisan deal on gun legislation following a meeting with fellow Republican leaders at the White House on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Republican said while "good faith negotiations and conversations" are taking place between parties and chambers, he doesn’t feel the bills Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has advocated for the Senate to take up would prevent future instances of mass violence. Scalise said Tuesday’s talks centered around both potential new measures aimed at preventing future shootings and improving the implementation of current laws.

"We talked about some of the things that still need to be done to make the background check system work better, making current laws work better. There are a lot of gaps in our current laws where people are able to buy guns, who shouldn't have been able to buy guns that had criminal records and other things that weren't getting fed into the background check system," he told reporters following the meeting.

"And so we passed a law to make that work better. He's looking at, you know, what might be other laws that he can get an agreement on, but the other concern is, you know, do the Democrats actually want to solve problems or do they want to just be more aggressive about taking away people's guns."

There is no such thing as “good faith” with the leftists. They want us disarmed and compliant. They’ll take whatever they can get that advances them towards that goal. Don’t give an inch, nothing, ever again. We need to roll back their advances.

Guns, taxes, immigration....anything. The Republicans cede a little ground, and the Dems have a new baseline for further compromise and erosion of Liberty.

And good for autocorrect. As I finished typing “liberty,” I thought “I’ll capitalize it.” AC did it for me.

The Dems have 2 REQUIREMENTS when it comes to gun legislation:

1) Any legislation that passes has to make it HARDER and MORE EXPENSIVE for Americans to acquire and hold on to guns.

2) Any legislation that passes CANNOT be constructed in a way that will cut down on mass shootings by young white men.

Requirement #1 is obvious. Requirement #2 is necessary as effective legislation will negate the need for further gun control or confiscation.

As long as Republicans understand the above, and therefore simply tell the Dems to take a hike on the issue, all will be fine.

The most prolific murderers are governments. Now God forbid that the left takes over, but they probably will at some point in the future, we will not be happy when they use capital punishment against non-leftists and anybody they don’t like.

Let’s keep our 2A rights. But let’s not give the doj and states more prosecutorial powers. As you said, you sew the wind and reap the whirlwind. The problem is that the left will abuse power when they get back in and you might be the one hanging from a scaffold.

Where is the leadership from our President? The President is not leading, he is being led, and embarrassingly so. The President is letting Mcconnel and Pelosi set the agenda.

Nothing being proposed would have any effect whatsoever on crazy people bent on mass murder. All gun control legislation is based on lies. It’s all lies. The President needs to lead and say all gun control is ineffective, it violates the Constitution and IT’S OFF THE TABLE!

Donald Trump was elected to solve major problems like illegal immigration by following the Constitution not to further erode our rights by violating it. It’s time the President takes the lead on this issue, put an end to the nonsensical, disingenuous debate and take violating the Constitution off the table.

The Republicans could have used that failed attempt of the mass assassination of the House Freedom Caucus to strengthen the public’s awareness of the real meaning of our right to keep and bear arms?

Instead we got this...

Wifey and I were discussing Chicago genocide, mass shootings... we remember growing up in the 1950s. Essentially no crime, no need for cops in schools, strong morality and family values. Abortions were considered tragedy, now it’s a badge of honor. Criminals go scot free. Open borders rewarding criminals. The whole country is upside down today. I told her that i’m sorry for our children. Imagine where the country will be 50 years from now... sad.

Well when the House wants to pass their laundry list of gun control bills and the Senate wants to pass nothing then the odds of compromise aren't great.

We still don’t know what is in it. Is this trumps gun control package... according to Pence, it exists. The NRA has been almost silent about it.
I have had enough gun control for a lifetime mr Prez. Bumpstock ban didn’t stop the murders, nor will your red flag rules.
It will simply mean only criminals and governments have guns.
Murder is illegal.. there are much more effective ways to kill masses... but none that leave the citizens defenseless against tyranny.

There are NO `good-faith’ negotiations with Democrats on guns. They want confiscation, period.

PDJT should give a flat NO to all the Dems’ foot-in-the-door proposals and then dare them to diselect him in 2020.

Don’t fall for it, Mr. President!
