While Cruz agreed that background checks need to be improved, he told Guttenberg and Milano that he thinks the most effective solutions focus on the bad guys, such as felons, fugitives and people with serious mental illnesses that are a danger to themselves or others, as opposed to law-abiding citizens.
Throughout the meeting Tuesday, Cruz repeatedly advocated for the 2013 Grassley-Cruz amendment that failed to pass at the time and which he reintroduced this year and repeated a claim that PolitiFact debunked in November 2017, saying that it could have prevented the Sutherland Springs shooting.
The bill would allocate more resources to stopping felons and fugitives from getting firearms and laid out improvements to the federal background check system.

Gosh Ted, how’d beat Beto by 3%? Surprised it was that high.
The whole reason she asked for this was “so everyone can hear your bullshit”. Evidently there wasn’t much to be heard.
Let’s please not equate the word “hater” with people we disagree with. I actually agree with Cruz on most things and certainly do not “hate” him even though I don’t think much of his comments at times and did not think he would make a good president.
Most of us don’t “hate” most of the things the left accuses us of, simply because we don’t agree with their view of the world.
Thanks for the link. I am watching some of it. Alyssa is a rambling emotional mess and is in way over her head. Ted is handling himself well given this adult baby he is talking with.
That has never been, nor will be the purpose. Murder by any means is illegal.. the Republican gun grab draws closer still.
I’ll take Ted C<ruz’s word over Politifact’s any day of the week.
I’ll take Ted Cruz’s word over Politifact’s any day of the week.
LOL!
She wishes those were brains.
Or maybe she doesn’t. Maybe she’s quite content being a brainless tw@t.
Or my personal fave: Napalm.
Crispy!
So what of all the people in states and cities where it is virtually impossible to own a weapon? They handed their guns in.
I do believe he said Cruz was THE smartest student he ever had.
WTF is this!? Pass.
The forces that be will concentrate on Red states, assume that anyone who says “that’s all the guns I have” is lying, and proceed to tear the gun owner’s house apart.
But I get ahead of myself. Who, what, and how do these forces consist of, how are they organized, and who directs them to strike at ordinary Americans in their homes?
Right now I am ripping my hair out, FReeper friends! Won’t someone please please please provide an operational plan as to how this great gun grab is to be executed!!?
I want details like we did it in the Army: Situation, enemy forces, friendly forces, mission statement, concept of operations, logistics, chain of command, all the minutiae to carry out a major tactical operation against a state, a city, a town’s gun owners.
If the would-be gun grabbers can’t come up with that, then they’re just p*ssing in the wind and they’re as ineffectual as they’ve always been.
Let Chuckie Schumer knock on the first door.
anyone have a non-facebook link for the video of this debate?
Thinking you can prevent people from committing crimes is a fools errand.
This ^^^^^^^
The founders understood this and understood the only way to combat evil is to allow good people to defends themselves and their loved ones with any and all means at their disposal.
I wouldn’t give Alyssa Milano the time of day.
Very few men’s faces are substantially improved by facial hair. Cruz is one of them.
Napalm is fun, but it only burns things. Thermobaric shreds, throws, overpressures *and* burns.
Based on what I have read it was a cordgial and respectful meeting. Alyssa even thanked Cruz for having her as a guest.
A year ago Dana Loesch proved Alyssa did not know much about guns or gun safety and what she was talking about with crime and murder stats. That was back when Alyssa was bashing the NRA and holding protests but using armed security at events.
