Lawyer: John Hinckley interested in music industry job

The man who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan is interested in getting a job in the music industry, possibly in California, his lawyer said at a court hearing in Washington on Tuesday.

John Hinckley Jr., 64, lives in Virginia and was not present at the hearing. A prosecutor said allowing Hinckley to relocate to California for a music industry job would give the government “great pause.”

Hinckley spent decades living at a psychiatric hospital in Washington after being found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1981 shooting that injured Reagan and three others. But health professionals have said that the mental illness that the 25-year-old Hinckley was suffering from when he shot Reagan has been in full and stable remission for decades. U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman has said he is no longer a danger to himself or others and has gradually allowed him more time away from the hospital and more freedom.

He did try to assassinate a Conservative Republican president so he might make it in the California music industry.

And now we have 'rap' music, so there's that.

If he really wanted to have a positive impact on the music industry, he would have gone the Mark David Chapman route.

Funny how you never hear anyone spouting any conspiracy theories about the attempted Reagan assassination.

Nope, Chapman would have only made a positive impact if he had shot Yoko instead.

Why is he free?

Why isn’t he still locked up?

He should have been executed a long time ago.

Not letting him out free.

In case you weren’t around when it happened. He pled not guilty by reason of insanity. In DC, at the time, if I remember correctly, the burden of proof was on the prosecution to prove he wasn’t insane—which it was unable to do. So he was found not guilty and sent to a mental hospital. Once there, the law said he could only be confined as long as he was crazy—if he got better, by law they had to let him go. After decades of not exhibiting crazy behavior they started letting him have day passes etc. Eventually he got, more or less turned loose.

I believe they have since changed the laws governing insanity pleas to keep something like this from ever happening again.

Yea.

Start with Judy Woodruff.

There’s one, maybe two, others with guns in the photos.
Sort of.
Researching it isn’t a good use of a weekend.

“Great pause” on the music industry?

Something about the music industry we should know?

Were they expecting this loon to go into particle physics?

A job at a gun shop, ok, great pause.

Barring that, if they were dumb enough to let him out to begin with, some job is possible in his horizon.

Unless he’s obsessing over a celebrity again...
