A social media battle between two of the Houses biggest stars is putting a focus on whether its OK to loan a gun to a friend.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw's (R-Texas) statement about loaning a gun sparked an incredulous response from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who could hardly believe someone would think of the possibility.
AOC TWEET: "You are a member of Congress. Why are you lending guns to people unsupervised who cant pass a basic background check?
The people youre giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record, & you may not know it.
Why on earth would you do that?"
Crenshaw was nearly as incredulous at Ocasio-Cortez. He said that only urban elites would not understand why someone might lend a firearm.
He also shared a news story about a young woman who used a handgun to defend herself against alleged robbers, saying her situation was a reason he supports the 2nd Amendment.
The idea of loaning guns to people for their own self-defense is nothing new, and federal law does allow legal gun owners to loan or transfer their firearms as long as the recipient is not prohibited from possessing one.

Bottom line is it doesn’t matter what either of these attention seeking people thinks... the law as written is very clear.
For now. The Dems want to change the law to prohibit this sort of thing. Next up will be cars, bicycles, phones, and sugar.
More prima facie evidence that AOC is insane.
Red Flag her and lock her up.
She clearly is incapable of comprehending the idea of private property, or the right to keep and bear arms.
A licensed gun owner?
Outside of incarceration or clear terms of an early release from incarceration there are no Constitutional means of denying 2nd amendment rights. Convicted felons absolutely should get all rights back once their debt to society has been paid. No other disqualifiers exist legally.
AOC is so idiotic.
I dont mean just her stance on firearms. Look at her presumptions.
And BTW, I prefer the lending title for grammar. Good job headline writer. Too bad it doesnt match the article.
Crenshaw is a major disappointment.
Interesting how she ASSUMES the borrower can’t pass a background check. As if everyone who can pass a background check already has a weapon.
Agreed. He came on the scene looking so promising and he has undercut POTUS more times than I can count. Crenshaw has an officious manner as well, seeking media attention to speak against POTUS in the very few minutes of several tempest in a teacup fake news moments. More politician than hero.
“...The people youre giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse...”
So, is AOC saying that most everyone has abused their spouse??? That’s what that sounds like...
Why is AOC making this assumption? Is she really that prejudiced? Gee, I thought the left preached tolerance and acceptance, not knee-jerk judgement. ;-/
Insane??? Or a communist b*tch that lied when she swore she would protect and enforce the constitution. She is stupid so her communist link is more of a useful idiot.
Shes also a bad actor who pretends to cry at the drop of a hat.
They don't trust their friends, they don't trust their neighbors, they don't trust anyone. Because deep down inside, ultimately, they don't trust themselves.
“Convicted felons absolutely should get all rights back once their debt to society has been paid.”
Including the right to vote?
Seeing AOC bloviate, about the qualifications of an unidentified friend of Crenshaw’s; I’m forced to wonder if AOC’s outrage would extend to loaning weapons to Antifa rioters?
Tell you what, even on here I am seeing far too much willingness to capitulate and compromise. This bending is starting to worry me a bit.
Yes...
And then there are people like AOC, who may be sexually trafficking young boys and girls...
