Some like it hot (July was hot, but a noted climate scientist questions how hot)
World Magazine ^ | 8/29/19 | Julie Borg, Marvin Olasky

Posted on 09/07/2019 11:59:12 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

July was the hottest month ever recorded according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) report. The scientists said July’s sizzling heat wave soared to an average global temperature 1.71 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th-century average. The previous hottest month on record was July 2016.

But Roy Spencer, a meteorologist and principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said NOAA’s analysis is wrong, because it’s based on a limited and “error-prone” collection of mostly ground-level thermometers. His own website chart, based on satellite recording of temperatures in the lower atmosphere, shows the July increase as only two-thirds of a degree Fahrenheit: “not terribly alarming.”

Google “July heat record,” though, and it’s clear that every major network and newspaper is mega-alarmed. The Washington Post was typical in ignoring Spencer and quoting Petteri Taalas, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization: “July has re-written climate history. … This is not science fiction. It is the reality of climate change.”

The Post included in its coverage some almost-stranger-than-fiction stories: An overheated German riding his motorbike and wearing only a helmet. Two drug dealers in Belgium stuck in a cocaine-filled container and calling police to get them out before they roasted to death. But critical thinking from Spencer received nary a mention.

That’s not fair. Spencer has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, was a senior scientist for climate studies at NASA, and received NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal for global temperature monitoring work with satellites. He should not be excommunicated from national media just because his books, including Climate Confusion, have criticized “global warming hysteria.”

That’s especially so because much of the alarm about climate change packs a big political punch. As Secretary-General Taalas put it, the climate “will worsen in the future without urgent climate action.” Translation: more central governmental power. The claim of climate change activists that life will become harder if our days become hotter may be true. But history shows that governmental control over all aspects of our lives will certainly give us great grief.

The Bible tells us that God created climates and created humans to be His designated gardeners. The Bible does not take a position on this current debate. WORLD will try to report both sides of this issue.

Basically, the call for laws to "fix climate change" is a way to enslave people to the government.

This guy is calling them out: the fanatical cries of "climate change is going to kill us" is the equivalent of chicken littles saying "the sky is falling"!

Meanwhile, law abiding people who own firearms are painted as devils, newborn children are allowed to die on tables (and the media applauds along with other anti-life Planned Parenthood supporters), and a Muslim in Miami tampers with an airplane's navigation system "because of a labor dispute". Those things are ignored by the fake news.

Warmists believe that the sun has no effect on climate. It is all CO2.

Well there you are. You see, that was just due to the weather, my boy, the weather.

Simply the normal up and down, the ebb and flow, the waxing and waning, the too-ing and fro-ing of the weather, nothing more.

Now, if it had been unusually hot in North Georgia this summer, why, that would have been an entirely different matter!

Man made global warming, don't you see? Trump! Climate denial! Polar bears wandering about at the Georgia Apple Festival! Leading straight to impeachment, laddie!

I really do wish you'd get with the program.

They just report lies.

It makes zero sense even in terms of their global change claims.

Same out here in the desert southwest. Except just just a few days the media made a huge big deal out of, it has been way cooler than normal here for the last 4 years in a row. Right now it is 103 when normal for this time of year is 125 or better. And been this way almost all summer.

Unusually cool summer here in WV. Never got over 98. That is unusual.

I see the problem, Dr. Spencer. You just need to let them “adjust” your data and everything will fall into line.

It is not just “climate” scientists that do this, unfortunately many NIH or other grant holders are apt to fudge data.

July wasn’t particularly hot here, in beautiful mid-Michigan. In fact, weatherwise, this has been one of the most pleasant summers I’ve ever experienced.

...July was the hottest month ever recorded...

Is that before or after they "adjusted" the data?

...this has been one of the most pleasant summers I’ve ever experienced.

Same here in North Idaho. Beautiful blue mountain skies, a few days in the 90s, otherwise usually in the 80s. No humidity. Cool nights. Today it's about 78 out there. The best thing of all was NO SMOKE this year. The cooler weather and wetter winter/spring kept the forest fires way down this year.

I've been around for 68 years, have visited 22 countries on business, visited all 50 states, and worked in 15 states. I have yet to see any evidence anywhere of climate change. None. The summers get warm, the winters get cold, snow flies in winter, the birds migrate, the animals move up and down the mountains throughout the year, the flowers bloom in springtime and the trees turn orange and gold in the fall.

Ok, I admit it, I’m a global warming denier who voted for
Trump. In fact I’m a global cooling proponent.
Show me the sun spots~! No doubt, when they clone the
wooly mammoths, they will keep them all here in Georgia
on the frozen tundra.

It did not get above 88 where I live; and that was only one day. It is cold now. Birds have migrated. Hope we have lots of snow this winter.
I am in NC mtns

I’s been a mild summer in AZ preceded by an exceptionally cool spring.

2 points....

1) July is usually hottest month.

2) which will kill more people, a few degrees warmer or the ice age which comes back regularly? Smart thing to do would be to warm the planet as much as possible to delay as much as possible the real calamity of ice age.
