This is a poorly argued piece. The only reason that the give for Warren to drop out is that Bernie has "more authenticity".
Warren is arguably ahead in the polls now (RCP Average Biden in 1st 30.1% Warren in second 17.6%, Bernie in third 16.9%.
I think you can make a stronger case that Bernie should drop out.
- Bernie isn't attracting new supporters, his numbers have fallen since the start of the contest. Bernie's profile is as people who supported him in 2016 see the other candidates they peel away from supporting him.
- Warren's trajectory is up, from mid-single digits to 2nd place. Warren has the classic "unknown takes the lead" polling history.
- Simply put: Warren is on her way up, Bernie is on his way down.
- Bernie already had a shot at the nomination, and failed. His candidacy was destructive, because of the way he ran it, and hurt Hillary.
- Bernie's not a Democrat, he's an independent who's carpetbagging in the DNC primary.
- Bernie is way too old. He's within a year of Biden. So that takes the age issue off the table against Slow Joe. Warren is enough younger that she can work that issue against Joe.
- Bernie looks unpresidential. He's like the kooky professor in Back to the Future.
- Bernie doesn't have any details in anything he says. He's still ranting and raving about "millionaires and billionaires".
- Bernie is a male, and it's "time for a woman" per DNC's over-deployed talking points.
- Warren is fresher, and doesn't have as much baggage.
- Warren survived her fake Indian claims, so she proven she can handle campaign setbacks and crisis.
- Bernie had his shot, and was too weak to take out the cheating Hillary. Trump will destroy him, he senses weakness like the alpha lion finds the weak antelope.
- Bernie calls himself a Socialist. While the Dem base includes a large segment that love this stuff, it's still at best a big distraction and at worst a game-ender for millions of General Election voters.
- Bernie's personal history is undistinguished and almost pathetic. (Unemployed till 45). Americans elect "WINNERS" with heroic backstories, not schmoes.
-
- Grant won the Civil War.
- Eisenhower won WW2
- T.R. Won the Spanish American War
- Kennedy fought heroically in WW2.
- Bush Sr. fought heroically in WW2.
- LBJ was Gov of the biggest State.
- Reagan was a movie Star.
- Reagan was Gov of the 2nd biggest State.
- Bush II was governor of the biggest state.
- Trump is a self-made billionaire.
- Trump was a TV star.
- Bernie was on welfare till 45, lived off his wife

I don’t think LBJ was ever governor of Texas. Correct me if I missed something.

I didn’t realize John Kass wrote this. I usually think of him as moderate or conservative. I suspect he wrote this to stir the pot first, for controversy.
Secondly, he may want the Democrats to lose to Trump and so he encourages them to go to the weaker candidate than Warren.
He’s not dumb. His arguments against Warren and for Sanders a specious, as you said.
