Trump to hold campaign rally in New Mexico
The Hill ^ | September 6, 2019 | Tal Axelrod

President Trump’s reelection campaign announced Friday he will hold a rally in Rio Rancho, N.M., on Sept. 16 as he tries to expand the electoral map before the 2020 race.

“We have seen an economic boom in New Mexico since President Trump took office. While President Obama lost 1,900 jobs, President Trump has added 34,600 jobs in the state,” said Michael Glassner, chief operating officer of the Trump campaign. “President Trump has delivered on his promises, and he looks forward to celebrating those successes with the great men and women of New Mexico.”

The rally will be held in the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, a multipurpose facility that says it seats about 6,000 for hockey and rodeos and up to 7,500 for concerts.

New Mexico, along with Nevada and New Hampshire, is a top target for the Trump campaign that allies believe the president can flip in 2020 after losing in 2016.

If he had listened to you self-proclaimed experts in 2016, you’d be enjoying President Hillary right now.

After his run in 2016 I’m inclined to think his team knows what they’re doing...but no one who runs gets it right every time when choosing when and where to focus. I’d guess there will be changes along the way as well.

At any rate they go his base continues to be strong.....if anyone ruins things it will the the GOP renegades.

POTUS, Trump should hold a rally in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City or, in Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York City to salute and honor “ALL” the “First Responders” across the nation. Attending should be LEOs, Firemen, EMTs, AMTs, ER, OR, ICU, Nurses, Doctors, all Military Branches, the General Public, etc.!!! Trump should also include groups like “TunnelToTowers”, “Wounded Warriors, etc.!!!

Fox & Friends, on FNC yesterday saluted and honored First Responders, including some from 9-11-2001. The show was terrific from beginning to end. Trumpie...set this gig in motion....now!!!

That’s been true for over 100 years. It always amazes me when I watch “Antiques Roadshow” the percentage of artists and potters who did their work in New Mexico in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Trump better watch out in California. The hate is too great here. Too many Commies—it is enemy country.

He should also go to Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Inland Empire and maybe Orange County.

In 2020, I think Trump can take NH, MN, NV, NM, CO and even VA. I don't think he loses a single state that he won in 2016.

No way he'll take NH...thanks partially to "same day registration".NV and CO? Far too many Kalifornians there for that to happen.VA? Far,far,*far* too many recipients of government checks for that to happen.

Minnesota? I suppose it's possible. If he can take Wisconsin then Minnesota seems possible to me.

Any tips from those who have gone to other rallies?

I was at his New Hampshire rally last month and got there 6 hours early...and there were already thousands waiting in line.

IOW...get there early! At least several thousand were denied admission to the rally I attended.

Trump has the states that went for him in 2016 completely locked out.

Crap. Keep thinking like that and you're going to wake up November 4th wondering what happened. Just ask Hillary.

Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa are NOT locked out. Trump will have to fight hard for them, harder than in 2016. They're all winnable but none of them are givens.

And I assume Minnesota should be added to the “potential flips” issue.

No. Trump got 1.323 million votes in Minnesota in 2016. Romney had gotten 1.320 million votes four year before so Trump's support was about the same. What made the state close was that Clinton got about 180,000 fewer votes than Obama had gotten in 2012. You can't count on all those people staying home in 2020. And you can't expect them to turn out for Trump.

I have been follow a FB thread of local Democrats who want to snatch up the tickets so Trump supporters can't attend. I pointed out that this has not worked in other locations. I got this as a response...

FULL of PAID FOR attendees. $15 an hour on Indeed, in town where he is going. I received one in fact when he was here. He also HIRED a ton of people from Universal/Disney when he was in Orlando on a "group rate" to have "people fill the arena". Yes, you are correct, his hate rallies are full of idiots, paid for actors and homeless people who need that $30 for two hours, a new t-shirt and a hat.🙄😉

They are truly and completely mad.

New Mexico will generate lots and lots of cheap energy. Only if we’re allowed to use it...

You are so correct. NM is #3 in the nation for oil and natural gas production, and the latter is so prolific that some producers are paying to get rid of it! BUT, the 2018 newly elected radical far-left environmentalist governor and her Democratic controlled legislature passed a bill that outlaws fossil fuel generated electricity for the state by 2045. Instead, we have to use slice & dice bird windmills and mega-acreage solar panels at a much higher cost and less reliable supply to the already poor population. New Mexico is truly going the way of a banana republic.

There were — voter harvesting by the Dems lost District 2. These new votes showed up after the Pub had won it. Former Rep Steve Pearce would have won it easily if he hadn’t given up his seat for a futile run for governor.

Maybe. It could be that Clinton was a deviation from the norm, or it could be that Obama was. Or maybe a little of both. In general though, the Midwest has been trending GOP for several election cycles, and Trump’s message was and remains well-suited to reinforce those trends. Obviously, Ohio, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa and probably Pennsyvlania and Michigan are all more likely than Minnesota, but in my view almost anything in the Midwest outside of Illinois is a better bet than the Southwest battlegrounds: Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.
