Republican officials in multiple states are on the verge of canceling their 2020 presidential primary elections in a show of support for President Donald Trump, even as some GOP candidates plan to challenge him.
Party leaders in South Carolina, Nevada and Arizona have all expressed support for nixing their presidential primaries, and are expected to make it official over the coming weeks. Leaders of the South Carolina and Nevada Republican parties will each meet Saturday to reach a decision, while the Arizona GOP Executive Committee will discuss its decision at a Sept. 14 meeting. Kansas Republicans are also considering nixing their primary, according Politico, which was the first to report on the moves by state Republican parties to cancel their primaries.
"This is nothing new, despite the media's inauthentic attempt to portray it as such," Arizona GOP Chairman Kelli Ward said. "Arizona Republicans are fired up to re-elect President Trump to a second term and will continue to work together to keep America -- and Arizona -- great."

Unity for winning!
Why not? It’s clear at this point that no one will overtake Trump for the nomination. Let Trump run a general election campaign while the Dems beat up on each other in the primaries.
Why not? The GOPe just want to keep the Trump voting MAGA vote home so the Chamber of Amnesty GOPe ticket down ballot is in the free and clear.
Because having him on the ballot will bring out more Republicans to vote on the down tickets. We need to protect and gain seats in Congress and Senate.
I didn’t mean to infer than state and local primary elections should be cancelled, just the Presidential.
Hmm, have to think about that one :-) thanks
I am not sure about other states, but Pennsylvania has a primary anyway for the down ticket offices.
And the cash they are going to save here is not insignificant. Very smart move.

How so? As I read it the rest of the primaries go forward as normal. Except that President won’t be on the primary ballot.
NOT a good idea.
The primaries should be held. But no one of stature ought to run opposed to Trump, let some insignificant ones get their names on the ballot. That would be much preferable going into the general election than no primary at all. Enforced “party unity” from the top down is not unity at all; it just pretends to be; every knows it and everyone knows that’s what it looks like to our real opponents.
This is a smart move for one big reason. It eliminates the possibility of a ludicrous scenario where Trump loses primary in those states that are trying to keep him off the primary ballot unless he releases his tax returns.
If another Republican can reach 25% in a given state, then have a contest there. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Excellent!
As a practical matter, it's already almost too late for a challenger to get into the field with a serious campaign. Someone may go tilting at windmills, and protest candidacies are fine. Let people make their point, and then move on. That's all the more reason not to be tinkering with the rules to rig a process that Trump doesn't need to rig.
The last think I want to see is some @sshole like John Kasich or Joe Walsh or William Weld getting face time all over CNN during the GOP convention just because he got 35% of the Republican delegates by default.
BOOKMARKED!
Wow!
That’s also going to save a lot of cash too!
