Should the day come, and I think it will, that college athletes get paid for their "service", the now historically black colleges will become the new football & basketball powerhouses.
That would surprise me. Grambling would have a hard time competing with Ohio State in fundraising.
The NCAA is primarily set up to keep small colleges from competing with the "names," and to keep a semi-lid on player payments. There are Alabama auto dealers that would hire athletes to be "test drivers" for new Dodge Chargers, and pay them a monthly stipend. Once the lid blows off of paying players, college football will break down to 12-15 super teams and a second tier.
