The horrific death of Anthony Avalos and the many missed chances to save him
LA Times ^ | Sep 4 2019 | GARRETT THEROLF

Posted on 09/05/2019 8:03:15 PM PDT by rintintin

Anthony Avalos was the fastest runner in his fourth-grade class at El Dorado Elementary School in Lancaster.

He earned a place on the honor roll, and his teacher, Harmony Bell, noticed an uncommon emotional maturity for a boy his age. He often collected his thoughts before speaking, asking Bell if he could step out of the room and take a few deep breaths.

When a new student joined the class, he asked to move to a neighboring seat, hoping to be the friend the newcomer needed.

Yet Bell saw that Anthony was often nervous about something. He held his Bible tightly throughout the day, once quaking with tears when it fell to the floor.

Anthony would never return to school after classes ended last year. The next month, the 10-year-old arrived at a hospital emergency room with fatal bleeding in his skull.

His body showed signs of prolonged abuse. His skin was bruised and burned from head to toe. His once-healthy frame had wasted to skin and bones.

Andranik Madikians, one of the physicians at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital who tried to save Anthony, recalled looking down at the boy and saying, “Oh, my God. How does this happen?”

Anthony had been under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services sporadically over a four-year period beginning in 2013 and ending in 2017 — more than a year before his death.

Agree. However this is CA. Instead, they’ll probably just all join hands with the perp and sing Kumbyah.

horrible story....

children's services are full of lazy dopey eyed book smart, life dumb people putting in the hrs to get to their fat Cali pensions....THEY SHOULD BE ON TRIAL.

imagine letting that poor boy be tortured by his horrible mother and her horrible boyfriend and allowed to live worse than a street dog.....

shameful....but shame comes only with people with a conscience, which apparently many of the social workers in this case didn't have....

At one point relatives physically blocked the mom from getting the children

Ok my blood is boiling

“A software program the department used to score the children’s risk of being abused again indicated the likelihood was “high” and recommended increased supervision.”
How about using your eyes, and ears to see something is wrong. These people are so dam stupid they should not be working in children services.

God! even the sheriffs are inept. Here in my county thanks to the CPS, a father and son were arrested for molesting foster children in their care.

Dear God please hurry!

Considering what a liberal rag the LA Times is, I have to give it some grudging respect for doing real journalism on this story.

These horrific stories seem to happen in the UK as well. The story of little Daniel Pelka will break your heart. This really disturbs me, I can’t stand it when little kids are hurt. Adults being abused is terrible too, but the little ones have so little recourse to helping themselves. RIP.

The biggest problem when you are a kid is trying to come up with a way to feed yourself.

I imagine so if your parents are trying to kill you. The same thing happened to Danny Pelka in the UK.

Of course in this case - as in many such - its not “parents” exactly. It’s moms livein boyfriend (and mom)

A similarly awful, disgusting and heartbreaking situation happened with a young woman named Sierra Day, who slowly tortured her four-year-old daughter Aniya to death over a period of months. Family members knew about it but were unable to successfully intervene for a variety of reasons, and social services did essentially nothing.

Aniya's biological father was in the picture and was attempting to help his daughter, but was kept away from her by the legal system, which essentially functioned as an accomplice to her semi-retarded and homicidal mother.

That case took place in Euclid Ohio, which is near Cleveland. The mother got life without possibility of parole, and her boyfriend got life but with parole possible after 20 years. The trial was held earlier this year, 2019, with the verdicts delivered last March.

The facts of the case were horrible and disgusting beyond belief. The mother used the little girl to torment her ex-husband, for whom she harbored an unbelievable intense hatred that was outside all possible reason or rationality. She tortured the little girl to death in order to hurt the father.

Here is one of many YT videos on the case: Sierra Day's sister takes the stand in Aniya Day-Garrett murder trial.

Yes, the same thing happened to Danny Pelka. While “mom” was force feeding him salt and starving him, the boyfriend ended up killing him by a blow to the head.

Or for any reason it would be better to leave.
Sometimes it’s other adults and the clueless parents can’t imagine that their children aren’t making something up.

Send even one bureaucrat to prison for the abuseand it will stop immediately. It will never happen. The bureaucrats in the DoJ don’t want to set the precedent that govt filth can be prosecuted.

I think about my wife, who does everything possible to protect our children, takes care of their every physical need, educates them, guides them, gives them morality, hope in the future and confidence in themselves - and who would sacrifice herself for them without a second thought.

And then I think about this boy’s wretched mother.

Life can be just too unfair. He never had a chance

Yes, the contrast is shocking. I thank God every day I had such good parents, my Mother especially. It’s hard to believe anyone could be that cruel, much less a “mother”.

CPS is a corrupt criminal enterprise that preys on distraught parents with extreme harassment techniques. CPS tramples parent and children’s rights. Due process be damned. The court system assumes parents are guilty of abuse. Parents have to prove that they are not guilty of abuse. There is no assumption of innocence. Children are pulled from parent custody just based on the CPS opinion. Any objection raised by parents or any other family member is reported as unstable and hostile behavior. There is no appeal process. Follow the money. CPS is paid fed dollars for each child they place in foster care. CPS agents and court officials get kick backs from adoption agencies. Price is based on age and race. The younger the better. Blue eyes and blond hair gets the best price. If no money is to be made because of the marketability of the child, CPS will ignore the real abused child as was in this case.

My son and our entire family experienced the CPS nightmare because of an accidental injury that occurred to one of my son’s children. We beat the CPS and the criminal court process but at a price of legal representation fees, time, resources, anguish, ETC. The viciousness of the CPS caseworker and her dishonesty still tightens my jaw although it has been years hence.

During the time we were undergoing the nonstop CPS onslaught, within miles, a boy that had been reported repeatedly by hospital workers to CPS and was a case, was tortured to death by his abusive mother and her boy friend. CPS was too busy pursuing the cache of my boy’s children to be bothered with a difficult to place child.

There is Spanish curse, “May you fall amongst lawyers.” My curse would be, “May CPS darken your doorstep.”
