Wow...I had no idea. Most likely you have to flush then 4 or 5 times.

Sometimes. I keep a plunger nearby. When remodeling my mother-in-law's home we tried to buy a custom toilet, and had difficulty finding one to meet California standards. Can't be shipped from elsewhere unless 1.28 gpf.

” most likely pre-dated the 1906 earthquake”

That technology was not available then.

Speaking of not getting you started....

A guy walks into a bar carrying jumper cables. The bartender says, "Hey pal, don't start anything in here.

That's odd because the bulbs had date-stamps for those early years. My dad bought the house in 1950 and the bulbs were there, and no one was reproducing vintage bulbs at the time.

Critics of the Department of Energy’s action argue that continuing to use energy-inefficient lights will cost households $100 annually in higher energy costs.

The average household has what, maybe 80-100 light bulbs in it? And if you buy in bulk, you can get them for just over $1 each (average maybe $2). So you should save your costs within a year or two.

But, the main reason I like them is its much easier to find lights in the 5-7000 K temp range. I prefer true white (daylight) for the most part, instead of the yellow tinges.

Fluorescent lamps are misnamec and they are mercury vapor lamps

and all contain mercury vapor concentrations approximately 2 million times which you should ever be exposed to

when you ignite mercury vapor all you get is UV radiation

the UV radiation is absorbed by phosphorus coating on the glass and gives off mostly visible light - but it’s horrible quality light flickers and if you ever break these things do you have a toxic mess

Thank you.

That’s what I had and yes, the drier is vented inside with a special filter box so I get “free” heat and humidity in the winter.

It shocked me to see how much “powder” blasted out of the bulb, which burst for no reason.

It was not the only one that had “issues”.

I had several that developed scary bulging black “blisters” near their base where the glass had bubbled outward.

These were not dime store cheapies, either, usually Sylvania CFLs.

Incandescent uses more power ( money) than LED.

OK, I checked online and you are correct, they are far more expensive, about $20 a doz. for 60 watt LED.

It must have just have been in MI walmart’s?

Yep - I still use 3-way bulbs in a few lamps but LEDs are everywhere else these days...

LED bulb technology has made this debate a moot point. Now much cheaper, last longer and use very little electricity.

Our 1978 home had the whole ceiling full of those 3 or 4 ft long fluorescents. If they were all screwed in they could blind you so I always left about half of them burned out. I still had to replace them all the time. Hated them so a few years back had a guy come in and replace all of them with canned lighting LED’s. So much prettier and I’ve only had to replace 1 bulb.

So what? It’s not changing my budget.

Seriously we’re not talking about that much electricity here. I should live long enough to see that much of a difference in my electric bill. Remember I got most of those bulbs for a quarter a piece.

I use LED bulbs for almost everything... but nothing beats an incandescent for reading...

maybe they were having a clearance sale because that particular brand was being test marketed. Sounds plausible.
