“They” as in parliament prepared a bill to push for no no-deal. That’s gone to the House of Lords. If it passes that unelected group on Friday, it comes back to the House of commons.

A big IF if :) it will be ready before the recess.

Now parliament can compel the PM to listen, but he doesn’t have to (contempt) and/or he can delay.

Let’s assume parliament approves a bill saying no no-deal.

Then Boris sits on his hands on it until after October 15.

Then parliament needs to pass a bill compelling the UK to ask for another extension.

If Boris resigns then (October 15+), there’s no way to get an election in place before October 31.

And note - it’s not an EU deadline - it’s a deadline between the UK and the EU.
