I’ve said since Parkland, the FBI needs an active threat monitoring department. Using inbound data like this and documented threats like parkland’s shooter, most of these guys will end up in the tracking program. Using patterns, AI and analysis can find these guys and track before they strike 90% are obviously predicable. That data should also two-way interface with the background check system. Block them from purchasing and also alert this department when an attempt is made. They should be able to use this data to drive mental health care.

I know the FBI is a mess right now but this is the only viable solution and add new accountability to their leadership and something to do other than interfere in politics. They then own the mass shooter problem.

Just another FBI empty suit such as Director Wray would be moved up if Trump dumped him.

The whole agency needs to be reformed from top to bottom.

My problem with this is the following.

Where’s the federal crime? Serious question!
Maybe if they are crossing state lines etc.?
The states need to do this monitoring with maybe a feed into the Bureau. However the Bureau is only involved if it becomes interstate. State LEOs have first responsibility & jurisdiction. Federal grants etc. maybe are needed for the state to set up such a watch center. But after its set up its the state’s responsibility to fund & man. (Yes I know they won’t because look at the great job they are doing with mental health!) And speaking of mental health by having it at the state level, the mental health medical community (at least in theory!) should be immediately involved and share responsibility. (They’ll hate doing that!)
