Long ago as a kid I wondered about “the right to a speedy trial” because all the criminals tried to delay as long as they could (your honor my client’s requested documents are not yet available so may we ask for another delay), and then death row entailed decades of delay later. The thugs outlived all the judges and witnesses on our dime.
