In August 1939 Hitler was stirring up tension with Poland and he was prepared to fabricate whatever was needed as a pretext to invade. On August 11th he told the League of Nations High Commissioner

If there’s the slightest provocation, I shall shatter Poland without warning into so many pieces that there will be nothing left to pick up.

The ‘take over of a German broadcast by Poles’ was being reported by German radio by 10.30pm and by the BBC the same evening, and featured in the New York Times the next day.

Interesting historical look back at the New York Times and fake news.

There is a series on WWII on YouTube put on by Time Ghost that puts on weekly wrap ups of the war’s events. They are now up to week 53 of the war. Each episode is about 10 minutes long with lots of info—including events in China, Africa, etc.

So the Times was pro Germany at first?

I have no doubt.

I know for a fact that Harvard hosted hoity-toity banquets for Nazi officials during the 1930s.

The elites thought they were the bee's knees, until they went kinetic.

Same with communism. The international elites think strong, virile dictators are so sexy. If they have to crack a few heads to bring the promised land to mankind, well, some people just have to learn the hard way. Too bad.

You mean like Operation Fast & Furious?

Not to mention Crossfire Hurricane.

The Left doesn't have time to deal with reality, which is just a social construct of Dead White Males anyway.

Hitler was The Time’s MAN OF THE YEAR

Don't mind the blood seeping out from under the locked door at the end of the hall.

SMH

There’s no excuse for it as nazis showed their true colors very early on.

The founding fathers they will never be confused with.

The Indy Neidell show.
WWII week by week, a follow on to his “Great War” series, of WWI week by week. A huge achievement, the best history series ever on Youtube, and fit to stand with the old ITN “World at War”. In many ways it is actually better.

That would make sense.

I assume Russia was a hero to the Times even back then.

The Three Stooges were among the first to recognize the evils of Nazism. I have a couple their early CDs in which they mocked Hitler/Mussolini/Tojo. Very few at the time were doing so. Including Joe Kennedy. Lindbergh.

They made the trains run on time.

Lindbergh was seduced by their technology.

Yep. That was in 1938. And who was it for 1939? Why, it was Hitler’s good friend at the time, Joseph Stalin. Two folks who already had robust concentration camp systems in place.

It could be argued that Time was simply picking important and influential people. But it could also be argued that Time should have been honoring role-models more, and dictators less.

Before Germany invaded Russia (in the summer of 1941), American communists and socialists where bending over backwards to excuse away Hitler’s Germany. Why? For the reason you just stated.
