Are people in Florida out of danger, now? Looks like the evacuation orders were unnecessary?

Hardly. The cone is going over eastern Florida. Looks unsafe to my inexperienced eyes.

People on the coastal areas will still have quite an impact from wind, rain, and storm surge. If by chance this doesn’t move as they’re predicting, and moves inland, those places will also be affected.

".... Are people in Florida out of danger, now?..."

Absolutely not.

Evacuation orders are made ahead of the storm before anyone is certain exactly where it will land. But with a Cat 5 hurricane bearing down on the Florida coast just miles off shore, evacuation orders were the right thing to do.

The storm hasn't even hit the Florida peninsula yet. But with the high winds and heavy rain and storm surges, the destruction can still be major.

Statements like they "were unnecessary" are Monday morning, armchair quarterbacking after the fact. It's easy to look back and say that but before the storm hits land or passes by, not so much.
