Officials refused to say the name of the gunman involved in the west Texas shooting out loud during a press conference Sunday.
Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke began the update by noting that the investigation into the shooting that left seven dead and 22 injured is still active and ongoing.
“There are still multiple crime scenes that are being worked. There are no definitive answers as to motive or reasons at this point. But we are fairly certain that the subject did act alone,” Gerke, who was accompanied by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said. “You’ll notice that I’m not naming the subject, and there’s a reason for that. I refuse to."
“I’m not going to give him any notoriety for what he did," he added.

They claim to not say the name of the murderer, but have no problem saying the type of firearm the POS used.
If they call him, “Murderer.”
They should call it, “Firearm.”
Selective phrasing isn’t helping, and I think it’s on purpose.
If he said the name begins with "Moh" they'd forget all about it.

By not identifying the perp, the focus is kept on the weapon, which is what anti 2A wants.
Now, when a police chief actually decides to do just that, both the Left and the Right are going crazy over it. The Left claiming the police chief is being obfuscate because the shooter is ‘White’, the Right claiming it’s because the shooter was ‘Muslim’ or ‘white Hispanic.’
It seems there’s no winning the debate. Damned if you release the name, damned if you don’t.
The media creates mass shooters. They hype them, promote them, encourage them, wish for them and use them to promote a narrative. Why is it so important to reveal the name and motive? Whether they fit the mold of a left wing terrorist, jihadist, or lone nut it doesn’t make the act any less evil.
Never revealing their identity, mocking them and erasing them from history denies them what they want most, fame. It also denies the media the chance to create a narrative.
Does the name “Ator” have any connotations or meaning? In particular, is it an adopted name?

But authorities must release it, they can’t keep it secret, and press or anyone can report it.
