Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that a small cohort of mainlanders have joined the demonstrations, taking extraordinary risks to support a society that offers freedoms unavailable back home.

This would not be happening if Donald Trump hadn’t been elected POTUS. He has set the worldwide tone for liberty, freedom, independence. If the PIAPS had won, the communist chains would have tightened down all around the planet; and liberty in the USA would be in great peril.
This was inevitable. I think the Chinese Communist Party are in trouble, more than they realize. The Chinese people feel powerless, seeing this bravery in Hong Kong is only going to empower others - *especially* as Hong Konger’s become victims of government violence but don’t stand down.
The smart thing for the government would be to stand down, let them protest and diffuse things for now. Of course they’d see that as a weak posture and will never do it. The people of Hong Kong know freedom, as the government attacks violently and forces tyranny on them it will just galvanize them.
I don’t see this getting better - it’s almost as though there’s only one natural result. The only question is how far it will spread into mainland China.
If they got rid of the communists, I’ll bet the trade imbalance would go away as well.
Yeah, if Hillary had been elected, the Chinese would still be taking advantage of us in trade and on the world stage. Remember, Johnny Chung kept dropping coins into the Clinton White House revolving door and then the Chinese contributed to the Clinton Foundation.
The Chinese government says Tanks.
Thats what will run you over

Wait till these folks find their bank accounts have been locked and they are unable to travel because of China’s social credit system.
They finally admitted that China has all of Hillary’s emails. The only question is did they get them through hacking or did she let them have access?
I’ve enjoyed your posts over the years.
Hope you survive,

Exactly— China would actually behave more rationally as a Democracy. I have seen reports that even provincial Party officials in Shenzhen, Guangdong and Shanghai are asking why Xi seems so intent on stirring up trouble with everyone and wrecking a good thing.
I have been saying this for more than 5 years, “That the Chinese Communist Party has been living on borrowed time.” The fact of the matter is that you can feed, defend or support a nation of a Billion People under a Communist system, its impossible. The Russian tried and failed after 70 years, so what made China believe it was going to work for them. Hong Kong has become a hub for younger Chinese to exchange ideas on freedoms and ideas.
I told someone more than a week ago that the Pro-Democracy Protest will more than likely spell the end of the Communist Party in China.
1) A violent crackdown of the protest in Hong Kong will likely cause them to flare up in other cities.
2)The Chinese Communist may be able to stave off its down fall by engaging in a limited military action in either Indo-China or Taiwan to boast national pride.
3)The Communist Party might try a limited package of reform, but I give that 0% chance of holding off the younger generation.
China’s Problems are many, but the top problem is that its Communist Party is full of relics with no actual appeal.
I remember back in the 80’s everyone thought Japan was going to rule us. I hope 30 years from now everyone laughs over China in the same way.
I’m hoping their people will one day rise up and demand real freedoms or they have Russia II and collapse a shell of their former selves.
I will take either outcome.
I remember thinking when Britain handed HK back to China, “Who’s going to take over whom?” It is quite possible that the virus of freedom could leak out into the neighboring provincesthat is what the Party is trying to quash. We are living in interesting times, I hope Hong Kong prevails.
I watch people rise up and try to take their country back, weve watched the Chinese in Tiennamin Square, the Iranians, again and again and again.the Afghanies, the Venezuelans, I watch the hope and the passion and I find myself praying for their success. Yet Each time I see them beaten back, killed, arrested, thrown in dungeons and I watch that hope almost die.
One day I hope I get to watch them triumph. Any one of them would be great, all of them would be a miracle
