Zelensky slams Nord Stream 2 as Ukraine seeks US gas

Warsaw (AFP) - Ukraine's president on Saturday slammed the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline set to send Russian gas to Germany as a "threat" to Europe and welcomed moves by Kiev to tap into US gas supplies.

Volodymyr Zelensky made the comments beside Poland's President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw, where he was due to attend Sunday ceremonies marking 80 years since the outbreak of World War II.

"We hold the same position as Poland: Nord Stream 2 is unacceptable and it threatens Europe as a whole," Zelensky told reporters.

"We want the diversification of sources of energy delivery within the US, Poland and Ukraine triangle," he added.

The US, Poland and Ukraine agreed later on Saturday in Warsaw to beef up cooperation aimed at securing energy supplies in the region reliant on Russian deliveries.

The agreement is largely focused on gearing Ukraine's gas infrastructure to deliveries from the West, including US liquefied natural gas (LNG).

It was signed by visiting US Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk and Piotr Naimski, the Polish government's chief energy strategist.

The timing is interesting. A Chechen terrorist... I mean freedom fighter is killed in Berlin. Maybe the Germans would change their mind too?

Germany and France feign frustration over Trump’s suggestion that Russia be invited back into G7, when they’re the ones doing business with them all along.

Germany in particular with Nordstream 2 = so hypocritical.

Let’s see the news on Monday and check out.

All in all it is great news that Poland finally has Ukraine as a customer to load their LNG terminal and it is good news for US exporters too.
Poland would rip the Ukes off and they can’t do a thing about it anymore.

Good catch. It seems Trump was bringing out the hypocrisy and forcing the Euroweenies to publicly take a stand againt the Russians.

On a lighter note, The Constitutional Pipeline from Susquehanna County, Pa. has finally been approved. Shipping gas north to Albany, NY region. After years of the dumber Cuomo brother fighting it.

Some of this natural gas from Penn. may end up in Ukraine, per recent agreements. Already LNG to Poland.

They want gas from the USA? Get the cash up front. Of course, we’ll give them the cash in the first place, but anyway...

Stupid idiot krauts. Depend on an adversarial Russia for gas and shut down reliable nuclear power plants in favor of totally unreliable wind and solar power generation.

I’m in favor of selling US Gas to Europeans, but the US needs to get a letter of credit guaranteeing payment by Ukraine, as they had a habit of not paying the Russians - one of the fuses for the current mess.

US sold the gas to Poland, that is then reselling the gas to Ukraine, so there is no reason for the US to "get a letter of credit guaranteeing payment by Ukraine".

Generally speaking Ukraine would most likely pay with the US money. Although is there would be non-payment and Poland decides to stop pumping it would be less likely to generate near that much an outrage as if Russia would shut them down for the very same reason. Also in this scenario Ukraine is a terminal point. It lacks capability to blackmail supplier blocking transit to other customers.

Thanks to Western liberal intervention in 2014 Ukraine ‘got woke’...now in 2019 Ukraine is ‘going broke’.

As predicted...

Once their ability to inflict harm on Russia wanes nobody cares anymore. Neocons included. “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” as one famous princess said.

“It seems Trump was bringing out the hypocrisy and forcing the Euroweenies to publicly take a stand againt the Russians.”

That was exactly Trump’s point.

Merkel’s Germany whines incessantly about the Russians, while they literally imprison themselves to Russian oil.

She is completely incompetent.

There will be a hybrid war against Russia’s blackmail oil and it will get heated up and stronger.

“” “” There will be a hybrid war against Russia’s blackmail oil and it will get heated up and stronger.”” “”

LOL. That’s a great line although nothing but a neocon propaganda.
Russia sells oil to the West for 50 years and the flow is steady. All despite half of that time it was at Cold War with its customers. It wasn’t used as a blackmail tool in 1984 and why it would change in 2021 with much less reasons to it is mystery.
Although neocon propaganda never was any logical and they don’t even care.
