GOP Rep. John Shimkus announced Friday he will not seek reelection for Illinoiss 15th Congressional District next year.
Shimkus, who has served in the House since 1997, said while his tenure in Congress has been an honor of a lifetime he is looking to spend more time with his family.
As Illinois candidates begin to circulate petitions next week, now is the time for me to announce that I will not be seeking re-election. Serving in Congress has been a blessing, but it has also been a sacrifice for my wife Karen, and our boys, he said in a statement.

Should be an easy GOP hold but all the retirements in our side are not a good sign.
How many GOP ship-jumpers thus far? Seems one is announcing departure every other day.
Total bullshit. 61 years old. No little children to worry about. Jumping ship. Now we have to find another. Probably for the better even if the seat is gone.
Shimkus, Sean Duffy, and one I can't name.
#NeverTrumpers being flushed down the crapper by Trumps' solid achievements?
And not a coincidence possibly.
Some say our side is forcing them out to get more conservative guys in.
Others say deep state had goods on them and is telling them to step down.
Always harder to retake a seat than hold it.
Wouldn’t be surprised at deep state involvement.
Unless this is a historically normal number of retirements.
Seems like a lot.
They already showed they own Everyone by killing epstein and his cameras
Agree 100 percent. All these "won't seek re-election" incidents ... really?
Who is buying these people off to get out of the way?
Another one (GrOPElite) bites the dust.
And Ryan led this effort to defeat Trump in the 2018 House elections by retiring out GOP old-timers.
Look out for him to seek the 2024 nomination as a “savior” of the Party, right?
Shimkus, Sean Duffy, and one I can't name.
So, would you be shot by morning? Or, is the name so distressing that people would actually faint?!
The GOP has its head up its butt.
13 in the House, 1 in the Senate
As of a month ago so more have been added since...Isakson this week.
“”On Monday Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) announced he would not be running for Congressional reelection. He is the fourth Republican to retire from the House of Representatives in the past two weeks.
Reps. Paul Mitchell (R-MI), Pete Olson (R-TX), and Martha Roby (R-AL) also announced they would not seek reelection to the House.””
Sorry - lost the link and can’t locate it again.
I lost the link I had for a few of them - do you have a link for the 13?
He’s cashing out and heading to a “job” as lobbyist most likely.
Nothing would surprise me anymore.
...more time with the family... tends to mean he cant meeet the payments that keep the gf quiet.
He has had Parkinson's Disease for years, and things just got much worse over the past couple of months. Fell and broke several ribs. Been in a wheelchair. Only surprised that he didn't resign some time ago.
Whatever it takes to complete the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).........
