The Justice Department watchdog on Thursday released a scathing report stating that former FBI director James Comey violated FBI policies and his employment agreement with the bureau over his handling of official memos containing classified information.
We conclude that Comeys retention, handling, and dissemination of certain Memos violated Department and FBI policies, and his FBI Employment Agreement, the Justice Department inspector general report states, noting that much of the content of the Memos was directly tied to FBI investigative activities.
While Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz declined to make a recommendation as to whether or not to charge the former FBI chief, he said Comey broke FBI policies by seeking to share unauthorized information about ongoing investigations with a friend who then gave it to The New York Times two months after his removal.
He also refuted Comeys claims that his memos were not FBI records but personal recollections, stating that the director was operating in an official capacity and that he acknowledged in his FBI Employment Agreement that [a]ll information acquired by [Comey] in connection with [his] official duties with the FBI remain[s] the property of the United States of America.
Former Director Comey failed to live up to this responsibility, the 83-page report says. By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employeesand the many thousands more former FBI employeeswho similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information.
Comey responded to the report's release on Twitter:

Am I understanding this correctly?
Comey won’t be charged because he didn’t DIRECTLY give classified info to the media but instead gave it to a friend who DID give the classified memos to the media?
Someone please tell me I am wrong about this.
Very simple answer. The OIG does not do this and cannot. This report has been referred to the prosecutors of the DOJ who has the authoriy and responsibility to do so. Stay tuned for further developments.
hoping that this isn’t being prosecuted because they’re going to get that rat bastard for FISA.
Comey: the Sasquatch of Sanctimony
The corruption continues. Corruption in the District of Corruption is deep and wide.
“Too soon to jump to a conclusion.”
DOJ/Barr have announced they will not prosecute.
Horowitz also found that Members of Comeys senior leadership team used the adjectives surprised, stunned, shocked, and disappointment to describe their reactions to learning that Comey acted on his own to provide the contents of Memo 4, through Richman, to a reporter.

Sorry, there are no further developments on this one. IG already did that and DOJ declined to prosecute. Case closed.
Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees
Devastating rebuke. How will Comey ever show his face again being such a “dangerous example”? Ha ha.
“No controlling legal authority”? What republic? Preparing the battlefield ALERT!
I was at the DC rallies and was disappointed to see the TP movement fade away. It was also disappointing to see such a potential force suffer from declining attendance by so-called ‘patriots’. People always seem to have something more pressing to do than to take a few hours out of their day to stand up for the future of the country.
True, but not based on this report, he made that announcement before investigation was complete. He may stick with that decision, there are bigger fish to fry and some people will dodge a bullet.
It was disappointing to seeTea Party fade away HOWEVER Obama weaponized EVERY damn department of government against them AND no consequences, just as we are seeing NOW no consequences I am so glad I will be dead when Americans are living in Venezuela they are just a couple of steps away it is SO CLOSE it is frightening!!!!
part of the problem is the TP did not have a good media/marketing campaign as many of the LW groups do...could be finance, could be people power but after the 2010 mid terms i wrote to them as suggested we go after the media- they liked the idea but nothing came of it...
Upon completing our investigation, pursuant to Section 4(d) of the Inspector General Act of 1978, the OIG provided a copy of its factual findings to the Department for a prosecutorial decision regarding Comey's conduct. See 5 U.S.C.A. App. 3 4(d) (2016). After reviewing the matter, the Department declined prosecution. Thereafter, we prepared this report to consider whether Comey's actions violated Department or FBI policy, or the terms of Comey's FBI Employment Agreement. As described in this report, we conclude that Comey's retention, handling, and dissemination of certain Memos violated Department and FBI policies, and his FBI Employment Agreement.
Bottom of page 2 of the report.
Some of what Comey leaked was classified, but only very small parts of classified information are protected by criminal statutes.
The press and pundits could teach you this fact, as well as details of what classified info leaks are criminal, and which are not.
The information is publicly available, but the press and the pundits have a vested interest in keeping you ill or mal-informed.
Culture of corruption has been validated by (and for) those who reside in it.
How about a refrain of "the snake," with "the snake" being our own government. You knew what they were when you let them in.
If there is anything the Age of Trump has shown us it is that we are nation of men and not laws. Anything is a crime if you support POTUS and nothing is a crime if you oppose him.
I certainly have a reason to follow the law. As one of the little people, I will suffer debilitating penalties for doing what the elite are exempt from suffering.
Those of us held to the law still have a reason to obey the law. I don’t want to lose my voting rights and other rights for failing to obey the law.
Now, I can’t see any reason for any rich or powerful American to follow the law. But you have to make sure you are in the club first, as Martha Stewart found out.
Dept. of Justice?
CRappola. F-ing laughable that is.
