The Justice Department watchdog on Thursday released a scathing report stating that former FBI director James Comey violated FBI policies and his employment agreement with the bureau over his handling of official memos containing classified information.
We conclude that Comeys retention, handling, and dissemination of certain Memos violated Department and FBI policies, and his FBI Employment Agreement, the Justice Department inspector general report states, noting that much of the content of the Memos was directly tied to FBI investigative activities.
While Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz declined to make a recommendation as to whether or not to charge the former FBI chief, he said Comey broke FBI policies by seeking to share unauthorized information about ongoing investigations with a friend who then gave it to The New York Times two months after his removal.
He also refuted Comeys claims that his memos were not FBI records but personal recollections, stating that the director was operating in an official capacity and that he acknowledged in his FBI Employment Agreement that [a]ll information acquired by [Comey] in connection with [his] official duties with the FBI remain[s] the property of the United States of America.
Former Director Comey failed to live up to this responsibility, the 83-page report says. By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employeesand the many thousands more former FBI employeeswho similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information.
Comey responded to the report's release on Twitter:

Barr should either decide to prosecute or resign today. Useless.
We dont need legal changes we need to get honest people in office. Do their duty of enforcing our laws.
i was at the rallies, i was with Protest Warrior in 2004, i was with Freepers outside the NYSlimes building protesting in 2006...count me in...
So since when is mishandling classified information just a violation of policy issue rather than a violation of the law??? Oh, excuse me, ONLY for the WASHINGTON ARISTOCRACY, huh???
Im not disappointed only because I didnt expect anything. Papadapoulus was convicted for getting a date wrong. This POS commits a felony and is free as a bird. Justice is as dead as that child molester in NY.
He just joined NYC mayor David Dinkins group
I havent committed a crime. What I did was fail to comply with the law. (David Dinkins, Mayor, N.Y.C.)
I remember the day he was fired, while he was in California, and the office of Comey was empty when he was returned to the POTUS to be fired...
IF what he took was confidential then it probably wasn't anything damaging to anyone but himself...so with that thought in mind, there may be MORE coming out that will ‘Hang him in the town square’ after all...
“Hell on Wheels” and go get him Mr. President!!!
Yup, Vannity will be cheerleading that message for another two years.
Comey is such a classless act. He should be thanking the attorney general for not prosecuting him and apologizing to the American people for violating his responsibilities.
It's till based on favoritism... I mean even Howowitz might decline to give a pass to some low level agent he doesn't care for or fear...
Open up the whole process - no passes for higher ups... no passes at all for anyone. Just let the whole department leak.
Wait, why leak? Why HAVE to leak?
Every day print the whole record of the FBI out for reporters to paw over....
NOTE THE REPORT STARTS THE DAY AFTER COMEYS JANUARY 5, 2017 MEETING WITH OBAMA, BIDEN, RICE, BRENNAN AND CLAPPER!!!
NOT ONE WORD ABOUT THAT MEETING!!
Exactly. The anti-Trump coup has, to this day, always two pronged: 1) investigate and attack POTUS and 2)don’t investigate and white wash for Obama.
Forfeiture of ALL pay and allowances, reduction in rank to GS1, Confinement at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas...
While most sailors believe themselves to be free of military stricture after retirement, retirees who fulfilled an active-duty career remain subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice and can be charged under that system long after they have stopped putting on the uniform.
Retired pay is not a pension, it is retired pay, said Zack Spilman, a former Marine Corps judge advocate now in private practice. It is reduced compensation for reduced current service.
Most sailors do not realize that they are not free of the military after their 20 years, Spilman said.
#3 I wonder what Hannity really thinks or is he still naive?
No reasonable prosecutor would pursue this case. I don’t know what everyone is thinking. Comey did not intend to break the law by starting a soft coup attempt.
The law is only meant to keep the masses in line. The upper echelon doesn’t worry about the law.
#3 I wonder what Hannity really thinks or is he still naive?
Hannity seems to be all in on GOPe GOTV efforts for 2020. Keep the base all wee wee’d up as Obama would say so we go out and reelected Graham, McConnell, etc. There is no way a pro media guy like Hannity can still really believe the nonsensical spin after dealing with it daily for years.
Lewis “Scooter” Libby got his butt hung for far less ... but wait wasn’t he a Republican?
First the “Hillary Defense,” now the “Comey Defense.”
The OIG is not in the Justice business. They do internal investigations of the DOJ and issue a report. They have done this. The prosecutors of the DOJ determine if criminal or administrative malfeasance warrants prosecution. This report has been referred to them for their action. Too soon to jump to a conclusion.
Reality Winner got five plus years for leaking classified documents. Even Pres. Trump called her a “small player.” Or words to that effect. Once again the political class kicks sand in our faces.
