The insanity of the Dems is Trump’s greatest asset.
Farmers are part of a much greater ag economy. Things like processed food, ag machinery, plant and animal hybridization and research are all hurt by unfair trade practices around the world. Every good farmer is a long-term thinker.
The “Trump tax cut” increased our taxes because we live in a state that taxes the hell out of us and we can now only deduct $10,000 of this. We are paying tax on money we pay in taxes. But we still love him. This “trade war” is something that was needed for the good of the country and farmers understand this better than most.
” On one hand, farmers have never been this critical of the Trump administration and the trade war with China”
Any American farmer that needs a communist country to stay afloat can go f*ck a horse.
Successful farming relies on cheap, abundant sources of energy, and Trump has done more on that score than any President I can recall.
The alternative is a future where Marxist gangs come to steal their food.
Farmers have always been a conservative bunch. Both my neighbors are farmers, and while we don’t discuss politics I would be amazed if both of them weren’t Trump voters in 2016. But both are also hurting with the decline in corn and soybean prices. The likelihood of them voting Democrat is probably near zero. But the chance of them just staying home is another thing.
The entire Ethanol scam was nothing but a welfare program for farmers. It’s past time to end it, and they know it.
There are plenty of legit markets for their corn.
I am an American farmer and I can tell you that yes the trade war has hurt our markets tremendously. The Market Facilitation payments have helped. But we would rather have fair trade and a free market. That being said we have not had fair trade with the Chinese in over 30 years. They constantly cheat and manipulate the markets to their favor while dumping tons of cheap crap on the US built with their near slave labor. Trump is the first president that has actually had the b@ll$ to stand up the the Chinese. He will still get about 80% of the farmers vote and I think he should really double down on the Chinese and bring back some USA manufacturing.
The American Farmer is part of who we are and is essential. I hate when the Farmer gets screwed by FedGov and other parts of society. The last Kenyan Administration acted like we could just import food and his idiot sheep acted like food grows in supermarkets. Way to much food is imported especially from China.
Please define "tremendously". I'm not trying to be argumentive, I'm just trying to reconcile that word with:
https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/international-markets-us-trade/us-agricultural-trade/outlook-for-us-agricultural-trade/
As a one year % decrease, for my business, I might take that as a yellow flag and maybe a need to work a bit harder or more effectively, etc., but I'd certainly not lose sleep over it. Over a several year trend, well, that'd be a different matter.
Also, how much of the decrease is due to the Swine Fever? How much is due to a weak global economy aside from trade disputes?
It would seem many Ag imports are up. Is there opportunity there? (Almost every problem is also an opportunity.)
I'll be interested in your reply. No rush, if your are busy. Thanks!
The problem for the American Farmer is BigAG...Tyson, ADM, Cargill
Import more food and end up with a lot more cancer. Other countries don’t care if they have to use triple the amount of spray to keep the crops looking good for sale.
Are they Americans first?
If so, then they can channel their inner Founding Fathers and do the lives, fortunes, and sacred honor thing.
And a note to farmers: You’re not the only folks taking it in the shorts. Suck it up.
The left sees farmers as angry white men. What a bunch of bigots.
