ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Southeast New Mexico businesswoman Claire Chase has become the third Republican in the 2nd Congressional District race.
She announced her candidacy Tuesday, joining former state Rep. Yvette Herrell and Las Cruces businessman Chris Mathys in bids to challenge Democratic Rep. Xochitl Torres Small in November 2020.
Our state is ranked worst in the nation for education and 50th in child well-being because liberal, career politicians are pushing radical policies that support open borders, undermine the industries that power our economy, and threaten our way of life, Chase said in a release. We need a businesswoman, a mother, and a conservative who will step up and fight for good paying jobs, better schools for our kids, and a strong, secure border.
The Roswell resident and native is the youngest and first woman chair of New Mexico Oil and Gas Association. She is the government relations director at Mack Energy.
Ive taken on the liberals in New Mexico, Chase said. Im ready to take the fight to the socialists in Washington because New Mexico needs fearless leaders in Congress who will support our President and get the job done.
Chase introduced Vice President Mike Pence, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross at an event promoting the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement last week in Artesia.
Pence seemed to hint about Chases plans after his introduction.
She is an advocate for a growing New Mexico economy, the vice president said. Would you join me in thanking her for her leadership past, present and future?

Pretty
She has my vote and I don’t live there...
Been over 40 yrs since i was in Roswell...maybe go back some day.
Ever run across a guy by the name of Bill Wheeler? Army Nam vet. Former POW. He passed away not too long ago.
how’s the Senate race looking?
Mark Rich (who lost last time) is running again. Still a virtual unknown - will probably get another radical Dem who most certainly will be an Hispanic (nothing racist, that’s just the makeup of NM).
Sorry, no.

I was there last week. Turns out you can’t buy alcohol from a store on Sundays. I just wanted a few beers for my hotel room. Was complaining to a nice kid working behind the counter at Dominoes Pizza and he said that the truck stop three miles up the road was outside the city limits and could sell alcohol whenever. So I drove up there, it was about 7:00 pm on a Sunday night, and there’s a huge line of people inside buying alcohol of all kinds, LOL.
Does anyone know what kind of primary system NM employs?
Hasn’t changed then!
I might have to donate to her...I might start a ‘Floridians for Chase for New Mexico’ chapter to help her win...
Does she have large almond-shaped eyes?
Isn’t that district red? Is she a looker?
There has been talk, again by the Dems, that the primaries should be open so that the independents can vote.
Depends on where you are in the state, and where you are buying/consuming the alcohol.
State rules are such: Unless your local district allows for it, no sales on Sunday or Christmas.
Restaurants (beer and wine only) - Mon - Sat 11 AM to 11 PM or until food sales end for the day, whichever is earlier. Sunday sales follow the same rules, if allowed in the local district.
For package stores (selling for consumption off premises), it's Mon-Sat 7 AM to midnight. Sunday is noon to midnight, if allowed in the local district.
For on-premise consumption it's Mon - Sat from 7 AM to 2 AM (except Sunday - sales cease at 12 AM Sunday). Sunday is noon to midnight, if allowed in the local district.
All sellers who sell on Sunday must have a permit from the local controlling authority authorizing the sale in the district.
Local sales on Christmas for sellers that have a valid food permit is allowed, unless Christmas falls on a Sunday, then it follows the local district rules.
No package sales are allowed on Christmas day.
Roswell is an exception for Sunday sales. Most communities allow it and beer and wine with dine-in meals. Never had dinner in Roswell on a Sunday, so don’t know if that’s an exception to no liquor on Sunday. In addition to the truck stop, I believe the Allsops at the entrance to the former airbase is also outside city limits.
