Hurricane Dorian battered St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and brushing Puerto Rico. Taking aim at the Florida Atlantic Coastline, Hurricane Dorian is projected to be a major hurricane (Category 3) at landfall.

It’s far enough away you could buy bread flour and make your own at this point still.
Also cookies, brownies, rolls, etc.
Yep, in g-town marvelling at the CF over renewables. Should be a cautionary tale but it seldom is to the eco-nutz.
Emergency light trick
A plastic gallon jug of water and a 4 dollar LED headband light
The type of light a cave explorer would use
You can put the led light bulb facing the water and secure the strap or attaching band around the jug
It will light up a room enuf to see
I still have my Coleman Camp light - lights up an entire room.

Please be aware, FRiends, that Gas Buddy is only as good as the latest local report. In the aftermath of a hurricane, the reports are less reliable. One thing that happens is that as soon as a location says they have fuel, they run out quickly. People are already in line when the gas trucks pull up. If the storm knocks the power out, and there is no battery backup, the pumps cant run. So sometimes the stations will have gas and no way to pump it. My advice is to fill up early and take a few extra cans with you. Sometimes theres a limit as to how much theyll let you buy. When Irma hit a couple of years ago, many in my family were stranded without a way for gas, ice, or water. It was a very difficult time. Please prepare yourselves ahead of the storm. I hope it will not be as bad as theyre making it sound.
You are way, WAY too paranoid about bacteria in tap water, in normal circumstances, unless maybe you are talking about tap water from a suspect / untreated private well, or have a compromised immune system.
In normal circumstances, municipal tap water in a sealed disinfected container* will keep @ room temp. for many weeks if not months, because it has lot of chlorine and (more commonly, these days) chloramine in it. Chloramine is actually hard to remove, because it doesn’t evaporate out easily, and must be boiled out over a considerably longer time than chlorine.
https://aquanswers.com/how-long-does-it-take-for-chlorine-to-evaporate-from-tap-water-entirely/
*Wash it out well, then fill it with cold municipal tap water; if paranoid let it set for a day, empty & refill with same.
“Store bought” bottled water should keep even longer, but if your municipal tap water properly stored does not keep for at least a month, something is seriously wrong with either the source or your storage method. This is not Mexico - I hope!
I suppose if one has drunk only bottled water from birth, then one’s resistance to likely remnant bacteria in virtually any water source might be low...
Those tabs are not a bad idea for “if TSHTF” and supplies run out. How long do the tabs keep?
Does a device like Zero-water filter out bad stuff (other than minerals) from well water?
Neat idea. Thanks!
Yup. Wifey and I were really happy when our favorite camping spot (which is non-electric) got their faucets fixed.
Angry looking storm...
I’m not sure. It likely helps, but a quick web search seems to indicate some question about effectiveness.
Granted that almost nothing is 100% effective.
I’m lucky to have had good quality well water (unfiltered) over 1/2 of my life.
So what about coolers, etc. Most stores are sold out around here

“Hurricane #Dorian has developed an eye
Expecting it to become a major hurricane today.
Nothing currently stopping storm from reaching Category 5. There I said it.”
i recommend a camping millipore filter. Not cheap but not that expensive and will filter out all contaminants and parasites. if you get the one impregnated with iodine (nit really necessary) a crushed chewable vitamin c tab will get rid of the metallic taste

“11 AM update from NHC on Hurricane #Dorian
Still strong Category 2 — expected to become Cat 4 soon.
Storm will park itself on/near FL coastline and unleash hell for a long duration beginning late Labor Day Monday.
Then a northward drift up the FL peninsula.”
5 gallon paint or pickle buckets !!!!
Freeze a gallon jug of water , place it in the 5 gallon bucket on the bottom
Have a Sealable lid and it helps to wrap the outside with foil
It appears that the western side just got organized.
