Hurricane Dorian battered St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and brushing Puerto Rico. Taking aim at the Florida Atlantic Coastline, Hurricane Dorian is projected to be a major hurricane (Category 3) at landfall.

Yep, even 120 miles inland isnt safe from these monsters. Katrina did a number on this area. Power was out for over a month. You stay safe.
We are in a recent subdivision by the St. Johns River in the Jax area. The power lines in our community are underground so that speeds up power restoration/disaster recovery. County does a good job with debris removal, too. This one just doesn’t feel like a monster to me. Cat 3 and it’s mostly about the kids missing some school for most people. Obviously, I could be wrong. Good luck!
((((Hugs))))Loved one on call.Seems like it’s getting worse. We are headed for Jersey shore Saturday.
I've lived on a cattle farm for 8 years outside of Hawthorne and I don't know Star Lake.
But that's probably because I seldom leave the farm and don't know but a couple of people locally. No social life. Don't do much local except get gas, buy something to eat or go to the hardware store. I don't fish or boat either. And there's hundreds of lakes around here.
I'll look up Star Lake on my map site so I'll know where it's at.
I’m somewhat familiar with that area. My son was born in Clearwater and we spent lots of time driving around out of the way places over in the western part. Florida is full of surprises- even still.
Wanted to stay up for 11pm update, but am up at 4:30 for work. Catch up tomorrow!
Thanks again, NN! Hugs.
I put the name of the storm and the date on mine.
Got them from Andrew to Irma
Watching from South Carolina. Thanks NN for all you do for us here during hurricane season.
Taxman! DEFCON Category III Dorian! Putting a damper on Labor Day weekend.
Thank you, NaughtyNurse for keeping us up to speed on Florida hurricanes!
I can’t decorate my hurricane shutters with exotic flowers - they are nifty Fabric Shield panels we bought about 10 years ago. Only had to putem up twice since we boughtem, but they are nifty.
I am hoping for the North Florida hurricane “push away;” the pecular effect the coastline has on hurricanes which causes them to, mostly, veer away FRom Jacksonville.
But, if I need to, I can ride it out - water, generator, food, TP, etc., etc.
Good luck to you, too. Hope Dorian misses all of us!

Pleased to report the decorated plywood was donated to a needy family after upgrading to the outstanding hurricane screens. Like kevlar. Work great. Love that they permit viewing the storm. Definitely worth the investment.
Can we assume you DON’T live in a hurricane zone?
Thanks - glad you’re here NautiNurse... always a comfort.
It is going to be a very interesting next few days.
Thanks for keeping us all informed.
Please chill - this is a potentially a very dire situation

He’s liking the more southward models. Ugh!
Thanks for running this thread!
Thanks, NN, for reporting for duty!
Decades ago in FL our house had an “L” shape at the back with a lot of glass facing the pool. My father had a channel cut into the concrete close to the exterior walls and another channel put in the eave above. Correlated sheet metal with top and bottom pounded flat would slide into place along the tracks and seal up the house.
