Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis took several implicit swipes at President Trumps leadership in an op-ed published Wednesday, warning about the fallout from fractured alliances and increasing divisiveness under the current administration.
Mattis comments were included in a lengthy essay adapted from a forthcoming book and published in The Wall Street Journal. They amount to the most extensive remarks from him about his time in the Trump administration since he quietly resigned in January.

WE the people are who he’s accepting his checks from...
I don't know why he sold his soul to the M.I. Complex, but it is really just too bad.
Oh yeah, and it’s probably time for the NATO Alliance to be downgraded. We probably need to spiff up the old SEATO alliance in view of China’s recent performances.
As I said when he was nominated, and I was right, Mattis is a good field general. But his politics and understanding of the world are stuck in 1975. Terrible choice as SecDef.
What has changed the game is 24/7 news cycles and millions of dollars to be made in book deals, TV appearance, etc. Most people cannot pass that up and in many cases are willing to be critical of the presidents they served if enough dollar bills are waved in front of them.
Ironically Oliver North appears to have started this trend of military aides being transformed into celebrities. Now North has mostly acted honorably but there's no question he was able to parlay his service into millions of dollars and celebrity - which paved the road for other less honorable people to follow.
Oh, a Democrat has a poor opinion of Trump. Wow. Shocking.
Strange little pro-homo unmarried dude, with some kind of lisp.....with bags under his eyes that would make Lipton jealous.
What a POS. Trump even went the extra mile to have the law changed so this PoS could be made SecDef.
Have seen that picture (post 24) many times. What idles it signify?
Mr. Mattis you were a heck of a soldier and exceptional General. Beyond that job you reached a point of diminishing returns.
Mad Dog gone mad.
I assume the final straw with Mattis was Syria, so if he were still SecDef, we would still be active in that sh*thole region. As he was looking at desert, our President saw the bigger picture of the Pacific and our Southern Border. Generals usually make very bad politicians and can be as idiotic as any other bureaucrat at any level when the stars come off.
The gathering storm.
I use it as part of the boilerplate Nut-Job Conspiracy ping.
It’s from the movie Take Shelter, which, oddly enough, I couldn’t get into enough to watch...
Why did POTUS hire this pillock in the first place? Who was he trying to placate?
President Trump makes democrat heads explode because he is not in line with their utopian dream of a socialist nanny state where power is not held by the people but by the state. The President makes rebuplicrat heads explode because he is not in line with their utopian dream of a republicrat nanny state where power is not held by the people but by the state.
Both parties have reason to dislike the President. He has called them out on their $h1t, making public their approbation. The general may identify with either/neither party, but it is apparent he aligns with some of the goals of either.
Too bad the Hatch Act doesn’t apply to retirees? He took the salt, he should exercise some loyalty.
.02, YMMV
KYPD
He got sucked into that Theranos scam that Elizabeth Holmes ran.
This is a guy who saluted the transgenderizing of our military.
Haley is ineligible.
Trump is not stupid.
What took him so long?
