Elizabeth Warren confronted by her Republican past
Washington Examiner ^ | August 20, 2019 | Naomi Lim

Elizabeth Warren is best known as a liberal firebrand, but the 2020 Democrat was a registered Republican well into her 40s.

The Massachusetts senator's affiliation with the GOP until 1996 when she was 47, documented by Pennsylvania and Massachusetts voting records, was dredged up this week by actress and Bernie Sanders fan Susan Sarandon. The film and small-screen star alluded to the Massachusetts senator's prior party allegiance while introducing Sanders in Iowa, despite the Vermont senator's campaign urging surrogates not to criticize fellow presidential candidates.

“He is not someone who used to be a Republican,” Sarandon said of the socialist, who himself has toggled between being a Democrat and independent before and after elections.

“Perhaps but there has been no claim that she was a ‘conservative republican’ but merely a ‘republican.’”

Like Romney and Weld.

Yes, but you see that quite often as people get older, more knowledgeable concerning the realities of life and well, just plain smarter.

I myself was a great deal more liberal than I am now but that is common as many young people think with their heart rather than older experienced folks who tend to think with their mind.

Going form center left Republican to raving lefty as one gets older is an oddity indeed.

Easy to explain. More important than having any Republican principles, at least to Warren, is being an opportunist. When you live in deep Blue Massachusetts, you’re going nowhere as a politician. So... Change your stripes! She did it with her heritage, so why not?

This was after she had lied about her ethnicity though. A real Republican would have contempt for Affirmative Action. Did she just vote in the primaries, or was she active at all in the Republican Party?

Elizabeth Warren was a gung-ho conservative Republican back in the 1990's, when she lived in Oklahoma.

However, to get to Hahvahd she had to completely change her persona.

I think the way she's campaigning, she must still be a covert Trumpian.

Don’t think it matters but I haven’t heard this before. Her star is rising so she gets vetted.

My gut tells me that Liawatha is the one to give the President the most trouble during the campaign. If the Rat Party's true believers come to realize that she was once a *gasp*...Republican...that just might lessen her chances of being nominated.

This is funny. The hard left is still pissed at Susan Sarandon for not backing Mrs Clinton. Now she’s at it again!

Dammit Janet!!

How do you go from even a moderate to slightly left Republican to a raging Liberal/Progressive leftist? I mean Joe Scarborough did that

Jo Scarborough has an interest in getting laid. So doo I.

I read somewhere that she had been a conservative Republican and felt that the GOP was too liberal, and let conservatives down. I could be mis-remembering of course, but still my thought is, if this is correct, then an abortion is probably the reason she changed her belief system so drastically. But I have no statistics or anything, I just have observed this more than once.

Republicans back then were not so different from the Clintons in regards to anti-family programs, anti-freedom legislation and loyalty to foreign interests on trade.
