Joe Arpaio announced Sunday that he will seek a seventh term as the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, promising to reopen his infamous tent city jail and bring back controversial jail policies that drew the ire of civil rights advocates and made him a darling of tough-on-crime conservatives.
Arpaio, who called himself "America's toughest sheriff" during his 24-year run, said he'll challenge incumbent Paul Penzone in the 2020 sheriff's race. Penzone, a Democrat, unseated Arpaio in 2016 for the job.
On this day, August 25, 2019, after consultation and approval from my wife of 61 years, Ava, I have decided to run to be re-elected Sheriff, Arpaio said in a news release. Watch out world! We are back!

Thoughts?
Shame on Joe. He is 87yo today! Should have brought along some apt replacements for all his time in office—and seen to it that one of them followed him into the role by now.
I like what he did but he thinks he’s gonna live forever and did/does not want a replacement.
That’s a shame.
You are right.
Not my County, but I wouldnt want a near 90 year old in charge of anything.
He’s 87 years old! Does he still have it?
Yes, I think you are on target, but why is there no one on the team he built that had already announced?
Joe cost AZ a Senate Seat and was too dumb to know the Left was funding him.
Done and done.
Stupid and vain. Not sure even I would vote for him.
Maybe he didn’t hire and promote alphas—or maybe they are afraid to cross him?
Seems like a lot of freepers don’t like old people.
We’re all going to get there some day - if we’re lucky.
Retire already. Give someone else a chance. Some folks dont get when they are done. Have him talk to Brett Favre.
Its not that. At that age you certainly have started losing your edge. I dont think he is as capable as he once was.
Either instance shows hubris is the problem.
As someone reminded me once” the cemetery has lots of people thought irreplaceable”.
Indeed.
This is vain and stupid. Moreover, just based on what I hear, Joe is truly exhibiting signs of dementia.
He will never get his sheriff office back because of concerns about his age and anger over his refusing to obey the court.
And while he did not cost Kelli Ward the 2018 primary race, he sure didn’t help.
Those 87 year old Supreme Court justices are still sharp?
Someone should not be voted in as sheriff of a county with 4.4 million people at the age of 88—any more than they should at the age of 12.
I would like to really dig and find out where his campaign money came from on the Senate run.
