Liu, speaking at a tech conference in southwest Chinas Chongqing, said nobody benefited from a trade war.
We are willing to resolve the issue through consultations and cooperation in a calm attitude and resolutely oppose the escalation of the trade war, Liu, who is President Xi Jinpings top economic adviser, said, according to a government transcript.
We believe that the escalation of the trade war is not beneficial for China, the United States, nor to the interests of the people of the world, he added.
U.S. companies are especially welcome in China, and will be treated well, Liu said.
We welcome enterprises from all over the world, including the United States, to invest and operate in China, he added.
We will continue to create a good investment environment, protect intellectual property rights, promote the development of smart intelligent industries with our market open, resolutely oppose technological blockades and protectionism, and strive to protect the completeness of the supply chain.

Somebody blinked. This is the Art of the Deal.
JoMa
The president “ordering” companies out of China was the winning strategy. I think that jolted them into reality, at least for now.
[First tier is September 15?]
Scratch that. Sept 1 - 15% and Oct 1 - 30% is what I just read (from another thread).
They may believe he will win reelection so they want to get out front.
[Theyll just reneg on whatever agreement they come up with, again.]
[The president ordering companies out of China was the winning strategy. I think that jolted them into reality, at least for now.]
HA HA.
No. They’ll not agree to trade fairly. They almost did once but walked away and reneged on the deal. They’ll do it again.
Screw them. Make them pay dearly with a drain of manufacturing, cash, and brains.
Thank you President Trump! Those jobs ARE coming back. No magic wand needed... just know-how and the balls to stand up to most of the world
“I dont think this will take more than three weeks to iron out, and some agreement signed.”
The reason the Chinese have later backed off their adherence to previous agreements, and the reason they will do so again, is that adherence to the policies Trump wants spells the end of Communist power. Trump wants the rule of law. There is no such thing in China. The law is whatever the communists say it is at the moment. This is the source of their power. The rest of the agreement has to do with how the party gets its money, theft of intellectual property and organ selling. Adherence to the agreement, the rule of law, means that China can’t execute someone just to harvest their organs. (This is a major source of income.) Theft of intellectual property is how the communist run companies survive. They don’t do research and development, nor is that something they could do as they are just cash cows for the party.
China will sign an agreement and then they will back off and we will do this all again.
“U.S. companies are especially welcome in China, and will be treated well, Liu said.

That wasn’t a BLINK. That’s just inviting more companies to leave the U.S. and operate in China. Raise the bleeping tariffs!
They blinked a week or so ago. Of course, you wont know about it unless you dig deeply.
The government made a statement to the effect that they would probably not allow the yuan to slide any further.
White flag flapping.
The math will never work for them. The US is 5% of Chinas economy; China is 1% of the US economy.
Pepsi..you’re wrong.
Didn’t anyone even read what China said.
They welcome companies and Investments into their country.
NOT GOODS.
The naivety on here to think this is gonna end in 3 weeks reminds me of people who thought the civil war was gonna be a month or so.
They changed overnight!! !Thank God!!
SMH
They are communists.
They will steal, cheat and lie and many here are praising the Lord already.
Just wow.
This. This 10,000%.
Combine this with a business friendly administration that knows exactly how to make moving your American company back to the US very appealing.
Of course the Chinese wont honor any agreement. Its silly and naive to believe any good will or basic decency exists among the ChiComs. Nothing moves them except raw power. Thankfully, weve got it right now.
The Trump Long Game is to break the Chinese economy so badly that they wont recover in time to catch up with us on the big stuff. Like technology and weapons.
Watch for a revival of Space Force in 2021. God help us if China were allowed to be the dominant force in space.
Yep - Trump hits back - Walmart has signs saying if you steal from them, they will prosecute....Trump told the world, that if they steal from us they will pay a really high price if they don’t stop it right now and then deal honestly from here on out...China is like that Brown thug who beat up on a little store owner and then tried to get a cop’s weapon....Trump is a bigger and tougher cop than China has become used to beating up on.
Which is what they always whine and snivel about wanting - just before they renege on the agreement that results and shove the blade in our back.
China is not blinking.China is playing the same game they have played for the last 30 years and that is to run out the clock.
I would like to see President Trump hammer them hard by banning the transfer of any American technology to them.
That would really hit their economy hard.
If you are taking Viagra, make sure the label says “Made in USA”.
We do not want the Chinese or Russians meddling in our erections.
__________
"China blinks" if this report is true. I pray that it is true.
This is a change in the mood music from China instead of a change in direction. The fight is still on, and Trump is determined to deliver enough of a beat down to pay China back for years of dishonesty and abuse.
A blink in insufficient.
We require full capitulation to our legitimate demands.
...resolutely oppose technological blockades and protectionism...
By definition, our property rights laws become their technological blockades and are thus protectionism.
