Stanford pushes separate physics course for minority students

Stanford University is pushing a separate physics course for minorities in hopes that it will result in more diversity among physics majors.

A 2016 survey revealed Stanford’s physics department to be one of the “least diverse” departments within the institution, and the university has since embarked on a mission to resolve that supposed concern, according to a university news release.

“Creation of special curricula and support services for ethnic minority groups and women...textbook examples of unequal treatment” Tweet This One step Stanford has taken is promoting a modified version of the standard Mechanics course, a requirement for physics majors, boasting “added support.”

Stanford’s alternate version of this course, Physics 41E, boasts additional class time, as well as “learning assistants,” individuals with a “passion” for “education equity,” who are paid by the university to guide students through the difficult course.

The university says this modified course helps to increase diversity in the field because “students from underrepresented groups often don’t have the same level of preparation from high school as their majority peers.”

Maybe they’ll follow up by installing separate lunch counters for minority students.

I once asked a cousin who had gone to Harvard Med School a long time ago why that institution turned out such a large percentage of bad doctors (and it did, I don’t have figures but I met a lot of them in the course of work).

You should look at the figures. Hard data evidence is much better than anecdotes and subjective opinion.

Those graduates pass their boards, match with their chosen residency program and end up in top medical centers around the country.

I have worked with that specific information. The graduates of the medical school have done well and the evidence supports that.

You and your cousin may decide to go to a physician who went to another medical school and avoid Harvard medical graduates. That is your choice. It’s a free country. I hear Cuba has good health care.

I’m not sure how many trees you are trying to protect and how you want to go about doing it but...

Of course the fastest way to get rid of the problem is to shoot them.

If that doesn’t work, you might try spreading something like Tanglefoot around the tree trunks of your most valued trees. It’s cheaper if you get it in large quantities.

Here are some remedies others have tried if trapping and relocating hasn’t worked.

Again, the fastest way is to shoot them.

LOL

I always wondered how anyone happened to post to an incorrect thread. Now I know.

No. Do not shoot medical school graduates. LOL Shoot the beavers.

Maybe we can get dogs and cats to write articles for the New York Times if we just give them better nutrition and a little more love....

That's a low bar to clear...

My cousin taught at Tufts ...

That may explain the negative comments about Harvard physicians. Tufts has struggled for years in the shadow of Harvard.

BTW, you have no idea about who you communicate with here on Free Republic. On the internet nobody knows you're a dog. LOL

I can’t say that I disagree with you on most points. Harvard has gone off the deep end. Their politicization of issues and virtue signaling is remarkable. It’s counter productive and damages their already tarnished reputation.

That said, the medical school has graduated some very good physicians. There’s no evidence to suggest that they are graduating a disproportionate share of bad physicians. The data show the opposite - for both Tufts and Harvard.

It’s unfortunate but any school located in Massachusetts suffers from proximity to Harvard. It’s not fair, but take heart, as Harvard continues its virtue signaling the shadow is rapidly diminishing.
