The media and politicians do that deliberately. Many people think an “assault rifle” is a machine gun, and you can just go to a gun show and buy full-auto rifles just like the military has no questions asked. What they want to do is confuse people and ban every modern semi-auto rifle that exists. And then they will discover a “loophole” they will say ban semi-auto handguns. And then ban revolvers and bolt-action rifles, because they are “repeating” and were also “weapons of war.” It doesn’t end.
I’m FAR from sure that the real answer is not: ALL OF THE ABOVE.
In All too many cases, I suspect it’s a case of WILLFUL IGNORANCE and/or, “Don’t confuse me with facts, as my mind is made up.”
I believe for a great number of the “gun control advocates” that they are really little different than a confirmed racist, who stoutly says that “- - - the _______________ (pick any unfavored group) are just naturally inferior to good people like me.”
