Anyone majoring in English or worse, English Lit; should expect to have zero job prospects.
If they happen to survive the program of studies and aren’t too off-the-wall and/or socially awkward, there may be a spot as am $80K Assistant Principal at a public high school somewhere if they also go out and secure a teaching certificate, and didn’t engage in enough devilment in their English Major days to be disqualified from being able to secure child protection clearances.
But that doesn’t allow you teach at most 6 classes a week, have a TA, grader, sit back in your tweed jacket, exude profound wisdom and moral concern, bask in the warm glow of adoring undergraduates (who in this case are mostly female and above the age of consent!)
Yeah, there’s a few English majors where I work. They work in parts logistics and they’re pissed off that nobody takes their degree seriously and they’re on the bottom of the middle-band of salaries (making a little more than the shop mechanics but nowhere near Engineering and IT).
Actually you are wrong.
English majors are in demand as administrative types because they can communicate clearly.
Or at least they used to be.
Now, who knows?
